February is International Self Esteem Month

"You can do it Brucie!" That remains one of my all time favorite movie lines. It comes from the movie, Matilda with Danny Devito, based on the book by Roald Dahl of the same name. It is from the auditorium scene where the "chubby" boy is forced to eat an entire chocolate cake. Ever since, when ever I see someone striving to reach a goal...I say that line. Makes me smile. Makes me feel good about choices.

What makes you feel good? What makes you feel good about yourself?

Do you dance around when no one is watching... or even if someone is? Do you smile at a stranger, and to misquote Rush's Neil Peart -you can pretend a stranger is a long awaited friend?

February is the month of love, or hearts and roses. February is the time for taking chances both on love and on others.

However, what about ourselves? February is International Boost Self Esteem Month.

Ways to Boost Self Esteem-It's a Different World

Do you remember that show? I enjoyed that show... especially when Whitley went to speak with the psychiatrist played by Debbie Allen. Three words were all she walked out with... and I wonder just how many others walked away with those three words as well... after all I still remember them to this day... the words you ask? But, of course... 'Relax, Release, Repeat'` How can you not love yourself a little more if you practice that adage... relax... no one is perfect. Release... let things go...life is short and repeat... keep doing what works.

Ways to Boost Self Esteem- Stop and listen

Listen to yourself. Listen to your institution. Listen to what makes you happy. Life is not all about have to's and what if's. It is also about wants (hey, I want that!) and needs (hey, I would look so hot in that outfit!) In moderation, of course.

Ways to Boost Self Esteem- Do unto others....

Well, actually do unto yourself as you would do unto others. Do you like surprising love ones this month with cutesy Valentines' and flowers? Treat yourself as well. Send flowers to yourself and sign the card Love, Me.

Ways to Boost Self Esteem- Laugh, and then laugh some more

Do you know someone so serious that when you hear him or her laugh, you are slightly taken aback? Are you that person? Learn to laugh and love what makes you laugh. Laughing is good. Laughter is good for us, and can improve our mood. Learn to laugh and then do it often.

Ways to Boost Self Esteem- Love notes

Leave yourself notes... everywhere. On your mirror... on your dashboard. In your favorite pair of stilettos. Encourage yourself as well as others.

Ways to Boost Self Esteem- Be like an ant

"Just what makes that little old ant... think he can move that rubber tree plant...?" High Hopes. Aim for the sky. Reach for it in your own way.
