Give Yourself a Cleopatra-like Milk Bath Experience at Home

While it is relatively easy to remember to take care of the skin on our faces and formulate a routine that benefits it, the same cannot always be said about the skin everywhere else on our bodies. It is true that our faces are definitely more exposed to the elements, yet the skin on our arms, legs, backs, and torso can also suffer from dehydration, sun damage, premature aging, blemishes and more. It is important to take some time, at least a couple of times a week, to pamper your skin all over and the best way to do this is by taking a nutrient rich bath or soak.

Perhaps one of the most luxuriating and beneficial full body soaks is a milk bath. Historians have reported that Cleopatra's secret for her renowned beauty and supple skin was the milk baths that she demanded to have on a regular basis. We may not all have the lifestyle of a modern day Cleopatra, but we can certainly reap from the benefits of her ancient knowledge.

Nutritionists and estheticians alike know that milk is rich in proteins, vitamins, and calcium, all of which are fantastic for our skin as well as easily absorbed by it. Adding some key, natural ingredients, like lavender and citrus peels to our milk bath can give it an aromatherapeutic effect as well as enhance the healing properties of the milk itself by adding circulatory benefits.

Preparing a relaxing, skin soothing milk bath at home is simple and extremely inexpensive. All you need in order to have your own Cleopatra-like soaking experience is two cups of dried milk powder. Full fat dried milk is best for people with dry skin, and non-fat is appropriate for those with oilier complexions, so you can choose accordingly. Next you will want 1/2 cup of lemon peels and a 1/2 cup of orange peels, with 6-8 drops of lavender essential oil to round it out.

After you have gathered your ingredients, start your bath by running warm water and slowly adding the dried milk powder, and the citrus peels. Leaving the peels in larger pieces is best, rather then grating them, since larger pieces are easier to remove from the tub after your bath. Lastly, you will want to add the lavender oil. Use your hand to swirl the mixture around in the tub, and when you have achieved the desired water level, you may turn the tap off and begin your luxurious bath experience.

For the full benefits of the bath, soaking for at least 20 minutes is best. After you are done, you can rinse off and pat dry as usual. Your skin will feel more supple, smooth, and healthier instantly.

While taking care of the skin on our faces is essential, let us not forget to pamper the skin on the rest of our body as well. The best way to pamper and take care of your skin all over is to take a nutrient rich milk bath at least twice a week. It is a beauty secret of one of the greatest beauties of the ancient world, and now we too can use it to look radiant and healthy anytime we want.
