Giving Birth - Are You Ready for the Big Day?

Make Sure You Have Everything Handy when You Are Ready to Deliver

Maricruz
When heading to the hospital you must be prepared. You obviously don't want to get to the hospital and feel uncomfortable, you need to feel like you're at home. I have been in the hospital to deliver my daughter about two years ago and learned my lesson in what I needed handy at that very special time.
I have made a list of things I think you should have when that big day arrives.

A bag filled with the necessities:
Toothbrush
Toothpaste
Hair products
Deodorant
Soap
Makeup

I went to Wal-Mart and looked in the travel section where the shampoos are at. They have everything on my list but in travel sizes, so you don't have to spend a lot more money when you will only use it maybe once or twice.

Clothes:
Pajamas
Clothes you will wear when leaving the hospital
Sandals
Socks
Bra
Panties

Don't forget:
Your favorite blanket
A comfy pillow

Babies bag:
Cozy receiving blanket
Baby clothes + Take home clothes
Pacifier
Diapers
Baby bottles
Baby socks

Try to shop around for great deals on baby clothes. I went to like 4 different stores and compared prices. There was a big difference in prices from each store, I returned to the one that had the cheapest items and it was well worth it. You don't want to spend too much on newborn clothes when they will outgrow them faster than you think.

Dad's bag:
If your partner is planning on staying with you at the hospital then you better make sure he also has a bag, that way he doesn't leave to go home to get his stuff.
Shirts
Pants
Pajamas
Socks
Sandals

Also have some travel items for him too.

Goodies:
Chips
Juices
Pretzels

Any snacks you might enjoy that can keep your belly satisfied.
Make sure to have a bottle of water handy too.

Entertainment:
Laptop
I pod
PSP or Nintendo
Crossword puzzles

Anything that can keep you entertained if you are planning to have an epidural and don't want to wait lying on the bed just staring at the wall.

You also have to have all documentation with you, depending on what your hospital needs, this should have been addressed to you at registration.
Make sure you have the car seat ready to go too.
This list should give you an idea of the things you will need when rushed to the hospital, make sure you keep everything in your vehicle so when your water breaks you aren't searching all over the house for them.
Hope this helps all you soon to be moms and hope you have a wonderful delivery.

  • Have a bag for you
  • Have a bag for baby
  • Have a bag for dad
Some women get prepared for the big day but when rushed to the hospital they have the baby so soon they don't even use their bags.
