Giving Thanks in 2009

Thanksgiving thinking about what I am most thankful for in 2009, I have one very quick thought. My family's health. With all the concerns out there today I believe my family not being sick is something to be highly grateful for. That and lots of soap and hot water.

With the pig-flu and the bird-flu and the flu-flu and the common cold out there, we are all doing ok. I see all the stories of the spreading of this sickness and I give thanks. I also wash my children's hands every twenty seconds when we are out in public. DId you know kids put their hands in their mouths every thirty seconds?

Thanksgiving is a time of family togetherness and hanging out. It will be nice to spend time eating, relaxing, and enjoying the family. I think for a new holiday tradition I will give everyone their own little bottle of hand sanitizer on a necklace to keep down on germ spread.

We will all kick back to watch Detroit and Oakland pull off the upsets. (Go Underdogs!!) We will enjoy chips and nuts; out of individual Dixie Cups. Please don't pass the salsa. High Fives are out too. How about an elbow bump? Touch football in the backyard? Involves too much touching for me. How about Eye-Spy instead?

Make sure you cherish your time with your family this year. Eat to your heart's content. Have an extra slice of pie or cake, but please don't try the icing with a dip of your finger. I'm sorry but you cannot have just one bite of my casserole, not off my fork or yours.

Enjoy all the extra time Thanksgiving brings. Make sure you don't keep any other extras around 'til Christmas. Once the bye-bye kisses have been blown and the family is on its way home, make sure to Lysol everything in your house from top to bottom.

Give thanks to your family's health this year. Give time to preserving it. Eat, drink, and be merry. Wash, sanitize, and avoid. Have fun being close with your family. Just not too close.
