Giving Thanks During Thanksgiving

Drew Bush
Thanksgiving is a wonderful time of year. The seasons have changed and we have a chance to get together with all of our family and friends. It is a time when we put aside any ills we may have and remember what or who is important to us. It is a time for everyone to remember what they are thankful for. Here are the ten things that I am most thankful for this year. These are not in any particular order.

1. My Wonderful Family

I am sure family would be at the top of most people's lists, but it is during this time that I remember what my family and I have been through over the last several years. I remember all of the sacrificing that my parents did over the years to give my sister and me the best life possible. Of course, life was far from perfect. There were times when I just wanted to fly away to a deserted island and live there for a year. Still, there were many good times as well and it is the good times that make me thankful for the time I have spent with them.

2. My Best Friend

I am thankful that I know someone that I can confide in whenever needed. I have known this person for a couple of years now and it has been a great time all the way. I look forward to knowing this person for the rest of my life, no matter where I end up in life. This person knows who she is (that's right, it's you goober!).

3. Having a Job

Since I graduated a few months ago, it has been really hard trying to find a job for what I went to school for. I have not given up the search and I am still plugging away. I am thankful that I have something to fall back on for now considering that there are so many people in dire straits. It is to those people that I hope for the best.

4. My Dog

I have had my dog Buddy now for ten years and it has been the best. I am happy and thankful that I had a chance to grow up with a wonderful dog that makes me feel better when I am down in the dumps.

5. Finding Associated Content

It has been almost four months since I started writing for Associated Content and it has been an amazing experience (I only wish I found it sooner!). I have had the chance to write on some really interesting topics and I have learned so much. What's even better is that I have met some really nice people on this site. I really do enjoy reading everyone's work. It provides me with a lot of inspiration.

6. School

I am thankful for the fact that I was able to go to college when I did. It was a truly wonderful experience and I had the chance to meet some great people. While there were some dull moments, there were also some truly exhilarating moments as well.

7. Having My Grandparents at My Graduation

It meant the entire world to me when my dad's parents came to my college graduation. My grandfather had always dreamed of seeing one of his grandkids graduate from college and I was the first to do so. Having them there was the best day of my life.

8. Having a Roof Over My Head

Since the economic recession hit, many people have been forced to live on the street. I am extremely thankful that I have a place to call home and that I am not living in a box on the street. Everyone should be thankful for this because it can be taken away almost at an instant. Sometimes we forget how lucky we are to have a place to call home.

9. My Health

I am extremely thankful that I am healthy. This is something else that can change in an instant, so when I can get through a day feeling well, it is a true blessing. This is another thing that may people take for granted.

10. Being Alive

I am extremely thankful for being alive. Everyday I wake up is another day that I can make some more great memories. Life is already short, so we have to enjoy it and be thankful for the days that we are able to spend with family and friends.

Plenty there to be thankful for, mostly things that the rest of us take for granted. Having grandparents at your graduation is awesome. Yep, you certainly do have a lot to be thankful for, as do we all.

As a society in general, I think, we have all too often forgotten to give thanks for those little things we tend to take for granted. Thanksgiving is a wonderful time to acknowledge those things and to show our appreciation. Great article!!

I think the economy has really made people get back to basics and appreciate what they have!
