Glassboro: An Emerging College Town

Rowan University is Transforming Tiny Glassboro into a Great Place to Go to College

Jim Kelly
Rowan University sits on a modest land patch in the town of Glassboro, New Jersey. It had its humble beginnings as Glassboro State Teacher's College and is currently being transformed into one of the best schools on the east coast. Now of course, it won't soon rival Rutgers in size or popularity in the state, but it's advancement is strongly making it the second biggest school in New Jersey. Rowan has a strong commitment in making the school one of the premier institutions on the east coast and with the revitalization of the town of Glassboro, both are primed to take off to new heights in the near future.

Here are a few reasons why Glassboro is becoming a great college town:

1. Rowan Boulevard - The new project is set to house double the amount of students the old and tarnished Mansion Park housed and will have restaurants and stores lining the new street. It will look to add some night life to a town that seems to be focused on one bar, the Landmark.

2. New additions to the school - The school is adding more and more and tearing down old buildings and replacing them with new ones. The school is updating is old face with a brand new make over that will make the campus look more attractive that will draw more interests from students, which will increase the profits of the town.

3. Greek life - Greek life was always big at Rowan, but it's becoming ever more popular. With the emergence of Greek life, Rowan will soon be forced to make a Greek Row somewhere near by to attract more students.

4. Rowan's West Campus - The new technology park and West Campus will provide a substantial amount of new housing, brand new athletic facilities, and a place of great business for the states technology leaders.

5. Proximity to Philadelphia - It's not New York City, but the access to Philadelphia from Rowan and Glassboro is great. Only 20 minutes in on a drive and double that if you take a bus, Philly offers great sports and great night clubs for Rowan students.

6. Landmark - As of right now it holds one of the towns liquor licenses and is the place to be on Thursday nights and usually they have promotions the rest of the weekend. It is the only bar in town but the buzz created by Landmark and the profits it makes will surely add interest to other young entrepreneurs looking to start their own bar.
