Glazed Vintage Photo Wall Art

Old black and white photos are a fun way to look back at family history. However, why just let them sit in a dusty old box? Showcase your photos with this fun and easy glazed vintage photo wall art.

For this project, you will need (per piece of wall art):

- Several black and white vintage photos
- Laser copier
- Cardstock
- 12 inch by 12 inch by 3/4 inch piece of plywood
- Medium or fine grit sandpaper
- Tack cloth or another type of soft cloth
- Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White
- Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Gloss Black
- Craft knife
- Self healing mat
- Ruler
- Pencil
- Elmer's glue stick
- Pour on latex glaze
- Cardboard
- Paint stick
- Hanging hardware
- Newspaper and/or a large drop cloth

For easiest cleanup after the use of the messy glues and glazes in this project, make sure your work area is adequately covered with several sheets of newspaper and/or a large sized drop cloth. Carefully sand both sides of a 12 inch by 12 inch by 3/4 inch thick piece of plywood with medium or fine grit sandpaper sheets. Wipe off any dust that has settled on the wood during sanding with a tack cloth or another type of soft cloth.

Prime both sides the wooden square using a layer of Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White. Continue to add primer coats until the grain of the wood is no longer showing. Once dry, paint the wood using layers of Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Gloss Black. Let the wood set overnight.

Copy the original black and white photos using a laser copier and cardstock. (Most copy and print places can do this for you.) If you plan on enlarging or decreasing the size of a photo, this should be done during the copy portion of this project. Arrange the photos onto the painted board. Use a ruler and a pencil to create guidelines for any straight edge trimming you wish to do to your photos. Trim the photos using a craft knife and self healing mat.

Apply a bit of Elmer's glue stick to the back of each photo. Adhere the photos in place on the board. Once the glue has dried, place the entire board on a large piece of cardboard. Carefully pour the latex glaze over the artwork. Spread the glaze to extend off the edges of the board with a paint stick. Let the glaze cure according to manufacturer directions before installing hanging hardware.

TIP: For projects involving vintage photos, never use original copies.
