In the early Glee episodes, one overriding theme or word was often used to link storylines together. For Glee Episode 11, the word of the day was distractions. Thanks to Sue's plot to leak the glee club's song list, Will had to check up with their sectionals competition. And after seeing Jane Adams Academy perform "Hairography" - as taught by special guest glee teacher Eve - Will got the bright idea to give his kids a hair-centric routine.
While "Hairography" distracted from the club's other talents, Terri went more overboard than usual to distract Will from her pregnancy scam - though she may overestimate Will's detective skills. Finn got distracted by a madeover Rachel, although Quinn and Kurt put together that distraction for their own purposes.
The soundtrack of Glee Episode 11 included a fair share of Beyonce, Madonna, and even John Lennon. Beyonce's "Single Ladies" was used in a past Glee episode, and her previous hits became the official anthem of the "Hairography" numbers. But it took John Lennon's "Imagine" as performed by the glee club for the deaf, to wake the New Directions up.
Distractions ultimately didn't work on Will, to Terri's dismay, while Rachel and Kurt each had to finally face the truth about their chances with Finn. Quinn briefly hoped that Puck would distract her from her problems with Finn, but it only worked for so long. And Sue, who had been semi-nice for two straight episodes, and absent for the last one, went back to avoiding distractions in her climactic plot against glee.
But no matter what songs and love madness are ahead, Glee Episode 11 can barely distract from the fact that there are only two episodes left this year. And after sectionals finally arrives on December 9, the show will be gone until April 2010, thanks to American Idol - FOX's version of the all powerful Sue. So the gleeks of the world have to prepare for a long wait very quickly, as the final two episodes and the Glee soundtrack can only distract for so long.
With the club fully focused again - at least for sectionals - next week's episode has them trying to hit the big time on a local commercial.
