"Glee" Episode Suggestion: Becky's Birthday Bash

We Need a "Glee" Sweet Sixteen!

Candice Cain
A lot of teenage milestones and issues have been tackled in "Glee" over the past two seasons: drugs, teenage pregnancy, virginity, sex, violence, juvenile detention, parents remarrying, best friend betrayal, homosexuality, the list goes on and on. One major teenage milestone that has not even been spoken about is a girl's sweet sixteen. Unfortunately, the biographies of all of the main female characters say that they are 16 or 17 years old. The only character that looks like she might be about to turn 16 is Mercedes (Amber Riley).

There is another female student character that has been prevalent this season: Becky Johnson (Lauren Potter), Sue Sylvester's (Jane Lynch) secretary and a member of the Cheerios. Sue has taken a special interest in Becky, as Becky has Downs Syndrome like her older sister Jean (Robin Trocki). It would be fantastic if Sue took it upon herself to throw Becky a massive sweet sixteen party, complete with life-size birthday cake in the form of Sue with her arm around Becky. There are so many reasons that an episode entitled Becky's Birthday Bash would be fun to watch.

Song Choices
There are so many timeless and classic songs that have to do with a sweet sixteen, birthday, coming of age and so on. Imagine Will Schuester (Matthew Morrison) singing Sixteen Candles, Finn (Cory Monteith) singing You're Sixteen You're Beautiful, and even Quinn (Dianne Agron) and Sam (Chord Overstreet) singing Sixteen Going on Seventeen from "Sound of Music". There are so many amazing song choices, everyone would be able to get a solo or at least a mini-solo.

Dances
The dancing aspect could be a lot of fun. After all, the setting would be a party where teens would be dancing with one another. Since Becky is a cheerleader, there would be room for a spectacular Cheerio display. A dance between Becky and a boy would be really sweet and sentimental, too. As a big birthday bash, it would leave a lot of room for line dances, such as The Electric Slide and Cotton Eye Joe.

Sue
Sue Sylvester is one of the most popular characters on "Glee". This episode would have her appearing a lot more often than in other episodes. At the root of it all would be Sue wanting to do an amazing birthday party to celebrate Becky's sixteenth birthday since her sister didn't have one. It would be even more poignant if Sue brought Jean to Becky's party. Hey... What if Becky and Jean happened to have the same birthday? This would let people see the more caring side of Sue, regardless of how abrasive she may be.

Handi-Capable People
Becky's role on "Glee" has definitely increased this season, as has Jean's. However, we only see Sue interact with them. Seeing how the other kids interact with Becky would add so much more to their characters, whether good or bad. Are Santana and Puck mean to her? Will the boys dance with her? It would be so, so great to have Becky be the center of attention for an episode.
