Glee Gets the Go-ahead to Use Billy Joel's Music

Billy Joel's Tunes a Cause for Glee Celebration

Lori Gunn
According to Playbill, Billy Joel, remembering his high school days when he was in a chorus, has given approval to the "Glee" team to use his catalog in a future issue. There are no songs mentioned that might be chosen, but selecting a show's worth out of the incredible pieces that Joel has written will prove to be a challenge.

It is my hope that they choose to do "Uptown Girl" and "Only the Good Die Young" in their performance. Not only are these two of my favorites, Glee's combination of voices and talent will add a new dimension to the sound of the music.

Joel won a Tony Award for Movin' Out, the Twyla Tharp dance musical based on his songs. Neil Patrick Harris sang a duet with "Glee" star Matthew Morrison, using Joel's "Piano Man", last season. That appearance won Harris an Emmy.

So will Joel appear on a tribute episode? He indicates that most likely will not happen. Although an awesome piano player, he says he is not really a TV or acting person. Glee has a solid fan base, so Billy Joel's appearance probably will not matter. However, I think he will be missing a fantastic tribute if he does not at least turn it on to watch.
