Glee and What I like and Don't like About It

Glee and It's Highs and Lows

What I love the most about Glee is the music. I think most of us still have an inner teenager in our hearts. There is probably not a character on Glee that most of us cannot relate to in one way or another. I am sure that we all have a favorite.

Rachel is the self-centered, egotistical good girl with an amazing voice and exudes confidence, not only as a singer on Glee but it is obvious that she is very confident of her talent on the show. She never shows any fear of performing. I suppose it comes from having been raised from a young age as a performer. In an interview on Oprah, it came out that Leah is the most like her character in real life than any of the other actors on Glee.

There are many great actors on Glee. How can anyone not love Sue Sylvester just a little? She is vicious and fun to hate. She is very funny and witty. She set out to destroy the new coach, cruelly referred to as "Beast."

Coach Beast is just about as feminine as a sumo wrestler but still a girl under all of the machismo. This week's episode made a laughing stock out of Coach Beast. The guys and some of the girls too would imagine her in various different poses or in lingerie when they wanted to cool off their hot lusty make-out sessions. Will stupidly told her what they were doing because she couldn't understand what was going on around her. She quit her job as coach at McKinley High School because she was totally humiliated.

When Coach Beast told him that she was not gay, but was a girl that had never been kissed, Will gave her a very tender, loving first kiss. It was one of those unforgettable scenes. Who has never had those feelings of being unloved, or undesirable and the butt of the jokes of others?

The Glee guys apologized to her and told her that they really respected and loved her. They then sang a mash up of "Stop in the Name of Love," to her to woo her back to the school when Will let them know how they crushed her heart. They all hugged her after the serenade.

I have to say that I love Puck because he is such a bad boy. Although I don't like the way that he bullies others. He is just so irresistibly cute and talented. In this last episode he just got back from juvie and chooses Artie as his community service. As usual what starts out with a bad motive ends up with a great moral lesson. Instead of Artie being used, he ends up helping tutor Puck.

Finn is Mr. Wholesome and is just gangley enough to appear a little insecure and innocent. He was duped by Quinn when she led him to believe that he got her pregnant in a hot tub. The whole series was good because it showed how horrible it is to be a pregnant teenager. The angst of all of your friends continuing on with their freedom and romances and being burdened with the adult responsibility of having a baby is pretty realistic. The loss of giving up the baby or trying to support it is palpable. Hopefully there will be girls who will reconsider unsafe sex or will want to remain celibate.

There are many great characters on Glee. Artie is handicapped, and Mercedes is an overweight black girl and they both have amazing voices. There are Asian teens as well as the dumb blonde Brittany. I like that they are showcasing each actor more often instead of letting just a couple get all of the glory.

Kurt is getting bullied by one of the football players, called the Fury. He keeps getting knocked into lockers and finally at the prompting of a rival gay Glee club member, stands up to him. When he confronts him, the bully grabs him and lays a big fat kiss on him. Kurt is stunned, shocked and speechless. When he tells his new found friend from the Warblers, about the shocking kiss he admits that it was his first kiss. I see a romance brewing for Kurt and the really cute Blaine, the Warbler member.

This is a great episode that addresses several different issues. There are some that I don't particularly like. I didn't care for the Rocky Horror Picture Show episode.

I don't care for glamorizing adultery between the adults. Will and the prissy OCD Miss Pillsbury is a little unsettling to me. When they portray the wife of Will as a conniving witch it seems to make his flirtations, and eventual adultery with Emma acceptable.

Glee is still a great series with absolutely amazing musical and artistic talent. I look forward to watching it every week. If I have to miss it and it hasn't been recorded I and you too can watch it at Hulu.

I love Glee I am kind of over the whole Will and Emma thing. He is too cute to be hung up on someone so stuffy. I liked it when they were just friends.

Interesting article. I have to admit I've never watched Glee, but I suspect I would have enjoyed the Rocky Horror Show episode, because I fell in love with the silly movie (it is a farce, after all) a looonngg time ago, although those actors were all adults, playing adults. Maybe with "teens" (who are really actors in their 20s) I'd have found it more disturbing; hard to say. They had fun with it, from what I've read. (Is this one for the Yahoo! blogs?? Just wondering....)

I like the show, but there are certain things I don't like, either. Sometimes they glamorize sex in their songs or dances and when so many young teens watch this show, I think it's a shallow way to get viewers. I also have to suspend my disbelief that a high school glee club in Lima, Ohio, would have enough money for the costumes and special effects they have every week. I live near Lima and that isn't realistic. Oh well...it makes a good show. :)
