Glee: The Musical Television Series on Fox Broadcasting that is Topping the Charts Onscreen and in the Music Stores

If You Haven't Watched Glee, You're Missing the Fun!

If you've yet to see Fox Broadcasting's new show Glee, then make tonight the first time. It's been a long time since a television show gave me cause to rush through dinner and cuddle up with remote in hand (to skip the annoying commercials). Glee is one talented bunch of folks frolicking through some of the wittiest plots and dialogues that have ever graced a Fox Broadcasting show on my TV screen. With laugh out loud funny characters, the writers of Glee have achieved the perfect symbiosis of talent actors, skillful writing, and superb direction.

And did I forget to tell you, (in case you've been under a stone somewhere this fall) it's a musical. Yeah, with real songs that you can purchase and listen to every night after the show on I Tunes; where these recorded tunes by the show's cast are outselling Number 1 hits.

With the release of Volume 1 of Glee: The Music you can hear the songs from the first half of the show's first season. And now, you can get ready to order Volume 2 of Glee: The Music which will be released on December 8 for songs we haven't even heard or seen on the show yet! The show's popularity has singers and song writers clamoring to have their tune showcased on future episodes of Glee.

Glee creator, Ryan Murphy, says tonight's episode will give us a different look at the outcast Glee Club and the pain and suffering that real outcasts in high school often go through. The handicapped nerd in a wheelchair, Artie, is the focus of tonight's show.

In an interview with LA Times, Show Tracker, Murphy says this "episode is the turning point for the show..Certainly, after this, it remains a comedy, and it's fun. But writing this made me feel the responsibility of showing the truth of the pain that outcasts go through. It's not all razzle-dazzle show business. It's tough, and it's painful, and it was for me growing up, and it is for most people. So I think this made me realize that amid the fun and the glamour, it's really great now and again to show the underbelly of what people who are different feel."

According to Murphy, the show kicks off with Artie's first solo, a strong wheelchair-bound bop to the Nouvelle Vague version of Billy Idol's "Dancing With Myself. In a previous scene on the show, his fellow geeky Glee club members are struggling to win a sectionals match and they nay say the idea of paying extra for a wheelchair accessible bus so that he can ride with the club. He ends up riding with his Dad as usual.

"'Dancing With Myself' is where Artie gets to break away from being misunderstood by everyone," Kevin McHale, the actor playing Artie, said. "It's where he gets to express himself. He's actually a very secure guy - you know, he does rap! - and he doesn't usually care what anyone else thinks. But here's an instance where his friends have taken for granted the fact that he's in a wheelchair. So this performance is all about him saying, 'Look, this is who I am, and this is who I want to be."

The world of high school glee club may not sound like award winning television material to you, but this viewer will be cheering old Artie on in his first Glee solo. As a former member of the boy band, Not Like Them, the boy can sing and spin a mean wheelchair dance! The entire cast is packed with super talent, including the killer girls cheerleading coach, Sue Sylvester, played by Emmy winning actress, Jane Lynch. She makes Bobby Knight look like the Stay Puff Marshmallow Man, as she ruthlessly plots to destroy the Glee Club and its director, Will Schuster, played by the very talented Matthew Morrison.

Will the Glee Club win Sectionals. Who will end up dating who? How did geekdom become so cool? And to what depths will she sink to destroy Will Schuster's Glee Club and resume her priority status as the most powerful teacher in the school? Tune in to find out the answers to these riveting questions.

It is indeed a really fun show although I missed the Nov. 11 episode, so I'll have to look for it on line. I am very happy to hear that they highlighted the wheelchair-bound student. Thanks for highlighting "Glee"!

I agree about Jayma..but I loved the juxtaposition of Lynch with her Downs syndrome sister, fit the episode they were doing..to make the point..but I bet we won't see much more niceness out of her!

You're right, Betty, it's an excellent show, but this past Wednesday had Jane Lynch being nice and no Jayma Mays. Grrrr!

This sounds like a great show-haven't seen it and will probably only be able to online but it sounds like it will be worth it to find a fast internet connection somewhere!

Nice article. I still haven't seen it. I'm being stubborn. Maybe I'll wait for the DVDs to come out so I can watch the whole season in one afternoon.
