Glee Spin-Off Ideas

Spin-offs Will Allow Glee's Minor Characters to Shine

Glee has so many lovable characters who unfortunately aren't able to have the screen time they deserve. With only one hour every week, Glee inevitably has to concentrate its focus on Rachel, Finn, Kurt, Will, and Sue while Other Asian Mike and mute Matt are stuck playing cannon fodder. I hope Glee will consider spin-offs as a way to allow Glee's minor characters to shine.

Here are a few ideas for Glee spin-offs.

Quinn Fabray, now 30, returns to McKinley to coach the Cheerios:

After making arrangements for adoption, Quinn returns to high school stronger than ever. She regains her popularity and becomes a star student, juggling popularity and academics. Like Elle Woods, Quinn Fabray gains admission to CULA and graduates with a 4.0. After college, she lands a position at Goldman Sachs where she earns millions, that is until a stock market crash and subsequent recession causes her to lose her job.

Desperate to find herself again, she returns to McKinley following Sue Sylvester's retirement and becomes the new coach of the Cheerios. Like Sue, Quinn is ruthlessly competitive and wants her students to succeed, but she doesn't forget the lessons learned during her pregnancy. She teaches the students that power comes with responsibility, and that they can be popular without being bullies.

Other Asian Mike and a Dance version of Glee:

While Glee focuses on singers, a show about Mike Chang will focus on the struggles of a high school dance troupe. Mike and his best friend Matt transfer out of McKinley when they gain scholarships to a prestigious performing arts high school. This spin-off will center around Mike while characters spontaneously break into dance. Like many Gleeks, I've been dying to hear more from cute Mike and Matt. And why not have the occasional appearance from off-again on-again girlfriend Brittany?

A Glee version of Disney Channel's Suite Life on Deck with Bryan Ryan:

After his "star-turn" as Jean Valljean, Bryan Ryan rekindles his love for show tunes. His wife, Wilma, dumps him when he abandons his career to pursue his childhood dream. Eager for a new beginning, Bryan's auditions land him a position as a cabaret cruise ship singer. The spin-off will take place on deck with scenes from different countries every week.

The show will focus on Bryan as he performs show tunes as well as explore musical traditions of different cultures. While on deck, he runs to a woman who coincidentally signs up for a cruise as a way of recovering from a recent divorce. The woman turns out to be 'the one who got away,' the former Mrs. Terri Schuester.

A Glee Spin-off comedy focusing on Puck and his Cougars

This comedy will focus on Puck and his pool-cleaning clients. Every week, a different couple will hire Puck to clean their pool, and he will have a fling with the cougar wife. Complete with scenes of hot shirtless Puck, the show will explore the question of whether or not a marriage can survive infidelity, and why Puck and cougars attract each other.

Artie Abrams, now 30, undergoes treatments to learn to walk:

This will be more of a movie special rather than a TV show. After nearly 15 years, advances in medicine allow spinal cord therapies to come to fruition. Artie makes weekly visits for experimental treatments and physical therapy and begins to take baby steps.

No longer having his wheelchair to push people away, sweet Artie is forced to confront his shyness and social anxiety. He also makes occasional visits to now Dr. Emma Pillsbury as he adjusts to his new condition. Artie has one goal: to walk off the aisle with Tina on their wedding day as husband and wife.

Mike O'Malley in a spoof how-to show: Straight Eye for Queer Guy

In a role reversal of Queer Eye for Straight Guy, Kurt's dad, Burt (Mike O'Malley), stars in a spoof show that teaches stereotypically effeminate guys how to act butch. Lessons will include auto repair, shooting rifles, wearing plaid, and appreciating the nuances of John Mellancamp's profound music. Queer guys will also take turns making out with Brittany who won't make out with guys who are "capital G-A-Y." This is obviously mean to be satire.
