Who is Behind the Killing of Jasmine Voskanian?

Monday, 21-year-old Glendale resident Arpiar Terrgalstanyan was sentenced to 26 years to life for second-degree murder, including an allegation that he had a gun. He was previously sentenced to 16 months for being the getaway driver in the killing of 49-year-old Jasmine Voskanian.

It all started when Bella Stepanyan, 27, let Voskanian borrow $8,500 on two different occasions and gave her access to her bank account in 2008. After Voskanian repaid only $1,000 and Stepanyan discovered what she believed to be fraudulent activity occurring on her account. The two had a falling out and Stepanyan was recorded telling her boyfriend's brother, Art Mangasaryan, who is serving a prison sentence about the problem. Mangasaryan's brother, Armen was told to "talk to" Voskanian to get the money back. Stepanyan also sent a text message to Armen telling him to "Take care of it," regarding the cash. But Stepanyan said the text only meant that Armen could make "a simple phone call" to Voskanian. "This one, leave it to me. " Mangasaryan said in Armenian to Stepanyan during a recorded phone conversation. "You can do so," Stepanyan replied.

Voskanian was shot in the face and killed on Feb. 25, 2009, when, just after midnight, she opened the door front door for Mangasaryan, whom she knew. Voskanian's live-in boyfriend testified that he saw Mangasaryan leaving the scene of the killing, but upon cross-examination, revealed that he had only seen the gunman's back.

"Arm is always calm," said Stepanyan, who testified that Mangasaryan told her he was at a party the night of the killing and that he had been planning to go see a girlfriend.

Mangasaryan's co-defendant, Terrgalstanyan, also faces a first-degree murder charge for allegedly driving him to Voskanian's home. Stepanyan was arrested after Voskanian's death and originally accused of planning the murder. She later took a plea deal with prosecutors and pleaded no contest to a reduced charge of accessory after the fact and was sentenced in February to one year in jail and three years of probation.

Armen Mangasaryan, 30, is facing a prison sentence of 50 years to life if convicted of the first-degree murder.

Sheriff's deputies escorted family members of the men out of the Los Angeles County Superior Courthouse after they started yelling. The men's families continued shouting as they walked along East Walnut Street in Pasadena.
