Glenn Beck is a Moron

-- and Other Intelligent Comments from the Anti-Beck Crowd

Marie Anne St. Jean
I can't tell you how many times I've seen "Glenn Beck is a moron" (and variations thereof) posted online in the last few days. Is anyone else as sick of it as I am?

Whether you support Glenn Beck or not, is there really any good coming of the name calling and crap throwing about it all? Honestly, those that support what he's doing seem, from what I've noticed, to be doing it quietly (maybe they're all at the rally in DC?), whereas those who think "Glenn Beck is a moron" are the ones screaming it from the rooftops, making post upon post on Facebook and Twitter, creating creative new twitter #hashtags to ensure their tweets are seen by as many fellow anti-Beck folks as possible.

Why?

If I was anti-Beck I'd be embarrassed by all of this behavior. Heck, even though I'm not anti-Beck I'm embarrassed by this behavior on behalf of a lot of whom I call friends.

I've heard things like "Martin Luther King's niece must have really needed the money for the speaking engagement in order to convince her to go over to the other side" (I'm sorry I don't have the quote exactly right, but the paraphrase is pretty accurate, and I've seen similar more than once). Who says MLK's niece isn't sincere in who and what she's supporting? What if it were a black man instead of Beck holding this rally that Dr. Alveda King spoke in support of? Would you be supportive of her then? Why? Because she agreed with YOUR agenda? I don't think it has anything to do with whether she supports her uncle's dream or not, it's that she's supporting something that you don't.

Oh yea, and because she supports Glenn Beck - and he's a moron.

I have yet to see any anti-Beck/anti-rally comment that says anything intelligent about exactly how Glenn Beck is making a mockery of Martin Luther King's dream. Spell it out for me, please. I'll be truthful - I don't follow a lot of politics, my education consists of high school, the school of hard knocks, and 21-plus years as a U.S. Marine - but I don't consider myself a stupid person. Ignorant, yes - about a lot of things, but I can read at a decent grade level and have an open mind. So go on, spell it out for me. What is it that Beck is saying or doing that anti-Beck individuals find so repulsive? What is it about restoring honor that isn't consistent with Dr King's dream of equality for all races?

Thanks for your GB piece. I was browsing your articles looking for recipes to find out how they should be submitted..... more like an article or just the recipe. You have a LOT of experience writing here! Congratulations on your success.

What does one's sexual preferences have to do with morons and Beck?

Great article. Glenn Beck and those who support him stand for truth. The truth is a hard thing to take in after being lied to for so many years.

I think people simply throw out the term moron to anyone they don't agree with. Great title for this piece!

I have to admit, I clicked on this thinking I was going to read another anti-Beck rant. Wow, I'm happily surprised. Thank you for being objective, and asking those who are so against him to consider "why?".

The Truth is the one thing that anti-Beck individuals find so repulsive. Good article. Thanks.

I don't see where listening to Glenn Beck is a bad thing. Almost everything he says makes sense and he seem to be a very intelligent person to me. Most people who don't like him are either on the far left or haven't even listened to him enough to know what they are talking about. From what I can tell the main reason Glenn is hated so much is that he tells the truth and the truth is hurting a lot of people. When things come to pass his wisdom will hard to argue with. What is wrong with wanting to restore the constitution and make the lawmakers uphold the oath they took to get into their office? What puzzles me is why these people are all over Glenn when they should be holding Obama and his comrades accountable for their anti-American ways?

You have posed some good questions/challenges here. The debate is worthwhile, insults simply disparage the one hurling them. Name calling is what folks resort to when they do not have a reasoned, articulate opinion, yet insist on offering it anyway. The practice starts in Kindergarten and lasts through adulthood for some.

While I agree that name-calling is immature, I absolutely can not find it in me to agree with you on any other points. In my most humble opinion, the danger of Glenn Beck & his preaching is that people are listening to him, taking him seriously & actually looking up to him. I don't believe anyone should be preaching religion on any "news" channel, first of all, and many things he says I find instinctively wrong. But, that's me, and everyone is entitled to their opinion. I certainly wouldn't debate it here, but well-written nonetheless.
