Glenn Beck is Playing with Fire to Feed His Own Ego, Attacks Obama on "collective Salvation"

Jeff Musall
While pretty much everyone on the far right is pushing extremism and throwing around over the top accusations and idiocy, Glenn Beck's particular approach is perhaps the most dangerous.

Beck seems to want to go out of his way to talk about non-violence and how his movement is all about "peace" on one hand, while fanning the flames of hysteria, paranoia, and hatred of anyone who isn't in the know, who doesn't see the life-and-death struggle Beck does.

While there are so many examples of how Beck is actually seeking division and inflammation while saying he is not, for brevity's sake I'm just going to focus on one post. Beck sent out to his email list a "Current Events and Politics" post titled "Obama: Individual salvation depends on collective salvation."

It's a sharp distinction Beck is drawing. He is saying Obama and progressives want to save everyone, and therefore are intrinsically evil, while the truth is that only some will be saved, and only through Christ.

"Collective salvation, unless we all are saved, none will be saved, okay? Jesus came to save you, okay? Let me just give you the - real quick, you've got to take it back, you've got to take it back to the war in heaven. War in heaven with the angels and everything else, and they have this war and Lucifer says, "I'm going to save all of them. Just give me the glory." And God says, no, I don't think so. And he selects, he selects the plan of Christ which, I'm going to send a savior down and he will save each individual, okay?" Beck says.

He adds " this is the root of social justice. Social justice has to happen because we all are in this together. It also is the way that you can excuse killing cracker babies. You can kill millions of people because they don't get it, and if we don't get them out of the way, we can't all be saved."

Once you get past the requisite WTF? Consider the quote Beck is citing. President Obama was giving a commencement address, and said the following about "collective salvation."

"It's because you have an obligation to yourself. Because our individual salvation depends on collective salvation. Because thinking only about yourself, fulfilling your immediate wants and needs, betrays a poverty of ambition. Because it's only when you hitch your wagon to something larger than yourself that you realize your true potential and discover the role you'll play in writing the next great chapter in America's story."

Obama is challenging grads to seek personal fulfillment through service to others. In a time when greed runs amok and corporations bleed working people, it's important to motivate some to service. Of course, Beck sees a bogeyman everywhere, especially when he looks at Obama.

Beck is fanning the fires of a anxious and fearful group, who are more than happy to take the bait he dangles in front of their eager mouths. Just look at the comments.

"There IS a God, and He will be damning the likes of Obama, Pelosi, Reid, Shumer and the rest of the Socialist garbage trying to destroy our nation and Constitution,"

"There is just no end to the invention of Satan. To say he presents his wolf's befiefs in sheep clothing is an understatement. Only if one truly knows the Word of God is one able to separate the gobboly gook from Truth. Pick up your Bible, folks, and start thumping."

"Wow, Obama is the Apocolypse. Wake up people, he is attacking your faith and freedom of individual worship. Also, he is puppeteering Congress to pass laws that give him unlimited control over what can and will be printed on the internet."

"Excellent analysis, Glenn. The collective version (more properly PERversion) of salvation is their "justification" for murdering those who oppose them. I, too, believe that progressives serve Satan."

"Wow, we are really drawing nigh to the time of the end. This is the start of the thrust toward the one world government."

"You've got it right, Glenn. Everything this man does is part of a satanic agenda. The people he has surrouded himself with constitute a ring of evil."

"This is all part of the one world leadership. If people think the world situation is going to get better they should read Revelations. I think it is only going to get worse. At least we have Glenn to keep us informed."

That's just a small sample of the lunacy. Beck is fostering a siege mentality, pushing "us against them," and stoking the fires of violence, even as he claims he is not. Beck is setting the table for his flock to rise up and start something - by giving them permission.

Of course, the arguments will be "we didn't want this" or "we have to defend ourselves" or "they made us do it," but make no mistake, Beck is setting his minions on a crash course to their uprising.

Tony, don't forget pretty much all the European wars (large and small) WWII (Germany and Japan were religious cults) Most African wars, etc..

Religious fanatics are the ones who cause conflict and war in the first place most of the time. If it wasn't for them, there would have been no Crusades, eradication of non-Christian tribes, persecution of Christians in Roman times, and no current Middle Eastern conflict. Take away the religious fanatics, and we might just all have a chance to live in peace.

Why do you dislike Glenn Beck so much? Is it because he's exposed the truth? You have taken this out of context; this was about black liberation theology, so if you are white, ya better watch out, blacks shall overcome and control you. Since Obama sat in a church pew for 20 yrs. listening to this crazy talk, do you shoot the messenger that exposes the danger of this? WAKE UP!
Do you want a race war or the government to continue to take away you liberty and freedom? Why do you hate people so much? Do you want to force people to live like you? That is called fascism, plain and simple. I guess you apply lies in order to rabble-rouse.
At least Glenn Beck has PROOF, you have POOF!

the only war Glen Beck needs to be fighting is his own personal struggle with his cardiologist. as a rule, i don't wish ill on many; after reading this rant, glen beck may just have to serve as an exception.

Beck is a moron and a far right freak who tries to use religion to prove that his followers are the chosen people. Ugh, the whole world laughs at America when this stuff is allowed to fester.

    Rabid lemmings.

Nothing like listening to rhetoric infused with emotionalism and fantasy. Ahhh! A night with Glen Beck.

I can never figure out if Glenn Beck could really be this crazy or if it's "genius" just for the money. He does perform a public service though, which is to make it known how many people in this country are absolute batshit crazy.

First rate job, as usual. Beck and other loonies continue to equate President Obama with Satan or Hitler or evil incarnate. They bring guns to political events, suggest that, in Sharron Angle’s rant, that revolution is an option and “if this Congress keeps going the way it is, people are really looking toward those Second Amendment remedies."
There is an option for those unhappy with the direction of government: elections. Of course there is a problem when GOP spokespersons consider Barack Obama ineligible to be president because he isn’t a “natural born” citizen.
