Masses Gathered at Beck's Restoring Honor Rally

On Saturday, a crowd totaling either 90,000 or 500,000, depending on which report you choose to believe, stood or sat shoulder to shoulder beginning at the Lincoln memorial and extending back to the Washington Monument to hear Glenn Beck's, Sarah Palin's, and Alveda King's message of Faith, Hope and Charity

Their message was one of unity, not divisiveness, choosing not to focus on the negative, but instead to present a positive message of what we have accomplished, as well as what we can still accomplish, through hard work and perseverance. Beck acknowledged that we have made mistakes, but what makes us a great Nation, he said, is our ability to learn from those mistakes.

Glenn Beck Lived Up to His Promise of a Non-Political Rally

People from all over the country flocked to hear Sarah Palin honor the heroes of the past and present, who have contributed so much to our great country.

They flocked to hear Alveda King's tribute to her uncle, Martin Luther King, and her inspirational call for unity -- "Glenn says there is one human race, I agree with him. We are not here to divide. I'm about unity. That's why I'm here, and I want to honor my uncle today."

And, they flocked to hear Beck speak of how faith, hope, and charity will make us stronger as individuals and as a Nation.

Glenn Beck gathered a host of speakers of differing ethnicities, differing religions, and differing political views to deliver the message that faith in God and unity will ensure our greatness as individuals and as a country.

Sarah Palin Pays Tribute

Sarah Palin paid tribute to those that have made and continue to make our country great. She acknowledged the invaluable contributions of people such as Washington, Lincoln, and Martin Luther King, who helped shape our country into what it is today - a country that allows its citizens freedoms and rewards they could not have dreamed possible. She paid tribute to the men and women of the military who have sacrificed and continue to sacrifice so much for our country. Specific honorees appearing on stage were Marcus Lutrell, Eddy Wright, and Tom Kirk.

Alveda King Calls For Unity

Alveda King paid tribute to her uncle. She said that we seem to have lost our moral compass, alluding to this as being a significant contributor to our current issues in America today. A significant part of her speech was about her desire to end racism, poverty, and white privilege, but she stated that the way to accomplish this was through unity, not divisiveness. "How many of us know that we need to rebuild America?" she asked. "We need unity to do that."

Faith, Hope, and Charity Awards

Faith, Hope, and Charity, the three fundamental tenets of the rally were repeated often throughout the day. Beck recognized an individual in each of these categories that epitomized these values. Albert Pujols of the St. Louis Cardinals was honored with the Hope Award for his dedication to his family, to God, and because of his charitable work in his community. Jon Huntsman, the philanthropist from Utah, was honored with the Charity Award for contributing a vast amount of his wealth to charities, one of his most notable being the Huntsman Cancer Institute. Rev. C.J. Jackson, a pastor from Houston, was honored with the Faith Award for his many years of service as a Baptist pastor, as well as his participation in many civic organizations.

Attendees Adhered to the Theme of the Rally

The thousands attending the Restoring Honor rally left their politcal signs at home. Demonstrations of patriotism abounded, but there were no overt demonstrations of politcal affiliations or political platforms.
