Glenwood Springs, Colorado: Things to Do and See

Glenwood Springs, Colorado is the home of the famous Glenwood Hot Springs but there is more to see and do in Glenwood Springs, Colorado then just the hot springs. Sure the hot springs are very nice with the warm relaxing waters that sooth and calm a person but you can do more while you are visiting Glenwood Springs.

Glenwood Springs, Colorado is famous for the healing effects of the hot springs. So of course Doc Holliday went to Glenwood Springs to see if the hot springs could help him. Unfortunately Doc Holliday died. He was buried in Glenwood Springs up high above the city. If you drive down the main street in Glenwood Springs you will see signs showing you how to get to Doc Holliday's grave site. You can park along the street and take the trail up to the cemetery. The trail is steep and curvy and is about a half mile long. The trail also gets muddy in wet weather so bring shoes that are appropriate. As you take the hike to the cemetery you can see Glenwood Springs. It is a lovely view and worth the hike. Know one is sure exactly where Doc Holliday is resting but there is a memorial placed in the cemetery where was laid to rest.

Near the Hot Springs is a walking bridge that spans over the railroad tracks. These railroad tracks are busy and if you are patient a train will go under you. As you stand on the bridge you can see the top of the train. You can also see the Hot Springs and much of Glenwood Springs, Colorado. The walking bridge has a nice park suitable for a picnic.

Glenwood Caverns is in Glenwood Springs Colorado. You can get to the Glenwood Caverns by tram. The tram takes you to the top of Iron Mountain. From there you can take a tour of the caverns that lasts approximately an hour. The tour of Glenwood Caverns is a well lighted tour that is suited for people of all ages young and old. However there is not an elevator only walking ramps with handrails so the caverns are not handicap accessible. The tour of Glenwood Caverns is about a half mile long but it has many stairs that must be taken during the tour. The Glenwood Caverns have many cave formations like stalactites and stalagmites.
