Global Climate Change and Right Wing Idiocy
Funny, it's been a fairly hot spring across good parts of the country, yet they seem quiet...
First, let's dispense with the dreadfully obvious. One has to be a complete moron to not understand the difference between climate and weather. If we based climate change policy on what the weather happened to be that particular week, we wouldn't get anywhere.
Anyone who has been in a cold climate for even a short while knows that it doesn't snow when it's very cold. And they should also be able to understand that a warmer overall climate will put more available moisture into the atmosphere.
Then all it takes is a change in the jet stream. There is a strong El Nino this year, which takes the jet stream normally in the Pacific Northwest far down the coast. That's why Southern California saw so much rain, for example. And it's also why patterns across the country shifted.
The fact is, 2009 was the second warmest year on record, and part of the warmest decade on record. And things are just getting warmed up, pardon the pun. We are still in the early stages of climate change brought on by global warming.
The conservatives who so seem to hate the science might finally "believe" in climate change when Florida is the size of Rhode Island. Or maybe not.
But back to the question, why does climate change seem like such an impossible concept for many conservatives to grasp?
I think to them, it's a line in the sand. If they accept climate change is being caused by human action, they acknowledge humans have to take responsibility,. And that's something very hard for conservatives to do.
To have to be responsible for climate change would mean we have to also step up in other areas. We can no longer charge ahead, full corporate guns a blazin', taking what we want of the planet, damn the consequences.
And then there is the religious aspect, just as high a hurdle for many conservative minds to overcome. God is supposed to be in charge. It's his planet, we are only here for a short while. God is in charge. To acknowledge that he is not is something they simply cannot do.
To the fundamentalist, it doesn't matter anyway. Jesus will soon be falling through the clouds, coming to usher in a new Heaven and a new Earth.
It would be nice, if those of us in "Blue" states could simply dismiss the high level of ignorance it takes to use snowstorms as proof the climate isn't changing, but alas - idiocy isn't confined to the Bible Belt.
Conservobots around the country have closed their woolly little eyes and followed their shepherds - Beck, Palin, Hannity, Bachmann, etc. We as a country cannot allow them to take people willing to think down with them.

Jeff, look into this pal. I know you are not deleting them, but wtf? I'm sorry to ask, really, but you are not doing it, are you? I have never thought you';d so that and still do not, but it is odd. I would ask you Jeff "What is it about climate change that gets conservatives [liberals] so riled up? Why, despite mountains of evidence, do the deniers rail on, spouting idiotic rants about how much it snowed this past winter?" So, what is it that so fires up lefties Jeff? What of the lies and cover ups admitted to? What of the mounting evidence of cooling for a dozen years? What of the Newsweek 1978 "ICE AGE COMING????" This serves your ideological wishes and you know it. You argument MIGHT have merit if you at least copped to that fact.

Speaking of climate change, I'm in Wyoming and it's been rather cold the past few days. Unusual. Normally, it is warm. The snow just left us a month ago. Hey, maybe it's those weather wars that I hear about so much. I can't say if they are real or not but it would be very insane to find that they were.
Let's see if I understand liberty - If a government entity, lets say confiscates an oil company - Then uses the billions in profits to pay for social programs would "Drilling for Oil" work for you. I have no doubt that it would. We sure have different ways of looking at "Freedom and Liberty". Just think about all the wild and crazy things said when GW set up the Patriot Act - Guess what, not a word from the lefty's when Obama kept it going. The problem with the articles I read from "Progressives" on Climate Change is: There is no solution that will work!! Period!! Until a NEW energy source is invented to move massive transportation. Taxing is NOT a soution.
