Global Warming: Hype or Catastrophe?

Miss Bee Haven
Global warming is an imbalance of nature caused by accumulative environmental factors, a byproduct of industrial growth. The air and water temperature of our environment is slowly increasing creating damage to our ecosystem.

Greenhouse gasses are pumped into our atmosphere on a daily basis. While the earth is equipped to naturally absorb some of these emissions, the unabsorbed excess emissions are proving to be a prevalent ecological threat to our environment. The major gasses forming the foundation of the greenhouse effect are C02 (carbon dioxide), Methane, H20 (water) and NO2 (nitrogen oxide).

The Greenhouse Effect is the buildup of radiating heat in an enclosed area, similar to the environment of a greenhouse. The reflection and absorption of the radiating heat on the earth's surface, in lieu of passing through our atmosphere into space, is the process that creates the greenhouse effect. The activities on earth, a result of the industrial revolution is directly responsible for the rising temperature level of the earth, which in turn is altering our weather patterns.

The IPCC, Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, has evaluated the climate, physical and biological changes that have occurred because of global warming. This data includes observed noticeable environmental ecological changes. Weather changes include increases in average temperatures on the surface and the ocean, increases in precipitation and frequency of precipitation in certain areas, decrease in snow cover and sea ice, as well as thawing of permafrost. Additional physical ecological system observances include the earlier flowering of trees, earlier emergence of insects and egg laying by birds. There has also been a noticeable decline in certain plant and animal species.

Global warming is referred to as a "Hot Button Issue" with claims that global warming is mainstream hype, a scandal related to the Climatic Research Unit. Research documentation, emails and related files belonging to director Phil Jones of the Climatic Research Unit, were hacked and exposed, circulated in an attempt to project manipulation and bias data research on the part of the scientists involved in global warming research. They inferred a worldwide conspiracy theory including the Copenhagen Diagnosis.

Skeptics have been debunked by scientists who have pointed out the information lacking, in developing a possible hoax, such as claims of falsifying data or admissions indicating global warming is a hoax. Circulated emails also do not refute physical scientific geographical data that has originated because of global warming.

Whether global warming is fact or hoax, the resident on planet earth should err on the side of caution, implementing methods to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Some ways to help reduce emissions include taking simple measures such as changing your light bulbs to energy star light bulbs in your five most used lights. If every household in the U.S. used this one simple measure, we could prevent greenhouse gasses equivalent to the emissions of 10 million cars. Additional ways to help our environment include heat and cool your home smartly, seal and insulate your home, use green power, reduce, recycle and reuse items. Support recycling centers that it helps conserve energy reduce pollution and greenhouse gasses. Global warming, now referred to, as Global Climate Change is a fact, it's up to us to change this impending damage to our climate. Start now to expedite change.
