Global Warming : How to Reduce Your Impact at Office

Erik Van Tongerloo
Reducing your impact of global warming up in your office is not always easy. There are many possibilities which offer good solutions for reducing the warming up in your office but the final decisions are made by the boss of the company; mostly you can only suggest your ideas. It is different if you are the boss or the one responsible for the safety and the implementation of the environmental legislation. When you have this function in the company you can make decisions to reduce the impact of global warming in your office.

The warming up of the earth or the greenhouse effect is an important issue these days. Almost every day we hear about the danger of these effects on television, radio or we read it in newspapers or by browsing through different Internet sites. If we all don't take actions to reduce our impact of global warming, the greenhouse effect will become uncontrollable.

Air pollution is the most important factor in the greenhouse effect. However, many people consider these problems are only caused by companies producing chemical gasses and the fuel used by cars; there are many other reasons and possibilities for reducing your impact of global warming. Reducing electricity and making use of alternative energy can contribute to reduce your impact of global warming. Global warming in your office can easily be reduced by paying attention to certain issues.

If you feel want to do your part, here are some beneficial ways you can help reduce the impact of global warming in your office:

* Replace old machines with new ones which use less electricity or a source of energy which creates less air pollution.
* Turn off the computer during break time or if you don't need the computer for a while.
* Turn off the cell phones in the office
* Participate in recycling. By recycling paper, computer; printer cartridges, and some other items, you can effectively contribute to the reduction of the greenhouse effect.
* Insulation of your office
* Replace the windows with energy saving windows. Windows are large energy wasters in an office especially if you have the traditional double glasses. The new technology provides you a better system for avoiding such terrible loss of heat during winter.

Another problem is these windows also let in too much heat during the summer and will increase the use of your air-conditioner. A new technology provides you to save in both ways. This technology uses materials for preventing lose of heat through a system with two layers of glass and argon or another inert gas between them.

When your layers of glass are coated your windows have benefits in as well loss of heat during winter as in reducing the Ultra violet light in your office. You can lower the effect of this by:

* Planting trees next to the office
* Turning the heating system a few degrees lower
* Using fluorescent light bulbs in your office and you save 75% more energy compared with the usual lights. Turn the lights off if it is not necessary or if someone leaves the office.
* Try to limit the use of water
* Unplug all the electronic devices when you go home. This includes the computer, fax machines, printers and all the machines in your office.
* Suggest carpooling or you can make an agreement with a bus company for home-work and work-home transport of your employees to your office and also back to home.

Reducing your impact of global warming in your office is absolutely possible. Going green is necessary for everyone and your office can contribute for reducing the impact of the global warming up of the earth!
