Global Warming: Ways You Can Help Stop This Eco-crisis

Jolly Green Girl
The World is in a crisis. The climate is changing. The polar ice caps are melting. We are in serious trouble. Almost all Environmental Scientists claim that CO2 this modern society spews on a daily basis is the culprit. Everything that we do from driving our automobiles to using electricity is creating an Eco-downfall. The problem seems overwhelming, and although we may want to help; we do not know how.

There are ways you can assuage this enormous problem. If we all do our small part to pitch in; we can make a difference. Here's how.

The first step is determining your Carbon Footprint. According to Carbon Footprint, Carbon Footprint is a measure of the impact human activities have on the environment in terms of the amount of green house gases produced, measured in units of carbon dioxide. Your Carbon Footprint is determined by how much Electricity you consume, how much gas you emit by driving and flying, and use of natural resources such as Coal and Oil. You can calculate your Carbon Footprint by clicking here.

After you determine your Carbon Footprint; you can decide on what ways you can help the offsetting of the Carbon Emission. First is to reduce your Carbon Emission by reducing your use of electricity and gas consumption. Perhaps you can turn off all the lights that you do not use. Perhaps you can unplug all the appliances that you are not currently using. Maybe you can bike to bike couple times a week, or purchase a hybrid car. You can find tips on great sites like Jolly Green Girl Confidential: which offers Eco-friendly tips.

You can plant a tree. For an average family to offset their Carbon Footprint to zero; they will have to plant thirty trees. However, you can start with one. Planting a tree together can be a great family activity. You can educate your children on how to protect the environment and respect the place they call home. If doing physical labor is not your cup of tea; you can donate your as little as $5 to plant virtual and real tree to such sites as The Almighty Forest.

If these plans don't work for you; how about buying off your carbon emission? The USA Today states:

Consumer-friendly carbon-offset programs allow individuals to calculate their own "carbon footprint" and underwrite enough renewable energy to make up for the carbon their energy consumption spews into the atmosphere in a year. The costs are between $4 and $10 per metric ton of carbon, depending on the program.

One I highly recommend is TerraPass. TerraPass is the brainchild of Ivy League business school graduates who wanted to change the world through Economics. This is not your typical Environmental group. The company is comprised with many business executives who decided to dedicate themselves to Global Issues. You can calculate your Carbon Footprint on their site and pay off your consumptions. With your money, TerraPass has supported wind farms, renewable energy legislation, and projects such as Biomass and Industrial Efficiency. They even started a wedding TerraPass for Green weddings.

There are so many ways you can help this Global Crisis. It is too much for one person to take alone. But if we all do our small part; we can stop Global Warming and help heal the planet.
