It's a natural cycle the earth has gone through for millions of years. The earth's temperature rose slowly over many centuries and eventually caused the first ice age. It happened over and over again. There have been seven ice ages since the earth first formed. So Global Warming isn't something new. The problem right now is that we're burning so many fossil fuels plus we're piling up so much garbage that it's raising the level of green house gasses to levels not seen even before the most recent ice age.
People act like it's such a horrible thing to want to protect the planet, conserve our resources and create a future for our children. So why do people fight Global Warming so much? Personally I think it's due to the fact that people just don't like big changes. Yes saving the planet is going to take work and people are going to have to change the way they do things in their every day lives. Something many people just do not enjoy having to do. I totally understand that, but in the end it's not about you.
It's about protecting the future for the next generations and about defending the one and only planet we call home. Living clean and saving the environment isn't just the moral thing to do it's also a great way to save money, time and live a longer and healthier life! Did you know that one standard four bedroom house that uses solar and wind energy can store and share enough energy in one hour to power not only that house but other houses and businesses in your town?
For each house that uses solar and wind energy as few as four homes can be powered by the excess energy collected by that one house. Electricity would be useless and by using natural energy (solar, wind and water) we'd be saving the planet in a huge way. As well as saving ourselves a lot of money every day. You can also build your home from recycled materials which saves money on building supplies and saves forests from being demolished. Forests we need to help keep the atmosphere clean and free from dangerous pollution.
Also, if every single person on the planet were to start recycling that means we can clear out the land that we used to use as dump sites for garbage and after they've been decontaminated they can be used as farm land or for homes to be built on. Did you know that aluminum can be recycled forever? It never loses its ability to be broken down and reused. Which is why recycling cans is such a great thing to do.
Plastic can't be recycled a lot of times. It loses its ability to be reformed after a while. Recycle plastic if you ever happen to use it, but try not to use much plastic at all. Everything we use can be recycled, even food. Start a compost heep in your yard. It's not that hard. Do the research to find out how to do it. Also look around your town there may be a community compost heep already available to you.
Also, eating organic is a way to help the environment. Without pesticides the land won't be ruined for future generations, not to mention pesticides are starting to effect the human immune system. They're not even really needed. Plenty of people grow crops without using pesticides. So there's no excuse for using them anymore. Another thing we can do to save the planet is to eat less meat. The human body isn't built to digest the amount of meat the average person consumes each day.
You can survive on 12 ounces or less of meat a day. The diet I am on limits me to 7 ounces of meat a day. And you know what? I feel better than I've ever felt before! As I slowly lowered the amount of meat I ate each day my body became happy. I don't get stomach cramps, I don't get indigestion, and I don't feel sluggish either. I have more energy, my skin is less greasy, and I love how I feel. Eating less meat means less animals to be killed and shipped around the US which means less gas used by the trucks that ship the meat and less methane gas released by the people who eat the meat. Yes I said it, meat makes you fart.
Even if you can't yet afford to switch to solar and wind energy, or any of the other things I've mentioned in this article you can still do things to help the environment. Try carpooling, or driving less. When you're at home don't have lights on that you don't need to have on. Instead of running your heat or a/c all the time try just opening the windows. Even in the winter time your house can build heat on its own, and by cracking the windows just a little you can let some cool air in and save energy.
Recycle recycle recycle! It's not really that hard and finding a recycling center in your area isn't hard either. You don't need to go out and buy separate trash cans either. You can use empty cardboard boxes to fill with the different recyclables. You can also save energy by making sure your dishwasher is full before you run it. Conserve water by taking shorter showers and less baths.
Use organic shampoo and conditioner, plus soap. It's better for your hair and overall health. A new study found that dangerous chemicals found in everyday products like shampoo, conditioner, soap, plastic drinking bottles and more have been found in the human body. Chemicals that shouldn't be in the human body and in large enough doses can kill us. They say that we're fine and shouldn't worry about it. But how can we not worry?
There are so many easy, cheap and even fun ways to save the environment. What is stopping you from doing your part? This planet is dying and every single one of us is responsible for saving it. We lose this planet and we lose it all. Just because the planet is going to have another ice age anyways, doesn't mean we should continue to make things worse and make things happen faster.
Do it for yourself, do it for your kids, your grandkids, your great grandkids, your nephews, nieces, siblings or anyone else you care about. Just do it. There's no denying that our resources are being rapidly depleted and the planet is being polluted. Lets not waste time arguing over our unimportant and petty differences. Lets unite under the number one thing that makes us all equal, and that's the health of this planet. Without this planet there won't be anyone around the do anything let alone argue over religion, politics, and more.
Here are some great sites that will help you understand Global Warming and how you can help combat it.
How to Recycle Practically Anything - This site gives excellent information on recycling items that many people think can't be recycled at all.
The Daily Green - A wonderful site dedicated to Green Living, keeping people informed on the facts of weather anomalies, and helping people learn how they can live green and save the planet and some money from their wallets as well.
One List of Recycling Centers in the US - It's not a complete list, but it's a start. See if your town is in the list or if a town near you is on it.
Environmental Defense - This website deals with Global Warming Myths and Facts. It separates fact from fiction and helps people to understand more about the topic.

Post a CommentDon't worry. According to the BBC this morning http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/7154473.stm
Bush says his administration "will deal" with global warming. I suspect they are fashioning the "Mission Accomplished" banner right now!
