Lately I have been observing globalization. To some, you may contribute this with stories of your company packing up and moving to a third world country in order to increase their's profits. While you sitting in your old recliner, thinking, what are you going to do now? Being a middle age man with some college credits under your belt. Pondering over the next direction in order to survive in this new America which doesn't seem to fit in your average daily life. First you get angry over immigrants taking your job. Because the easy way out, is to blame the first person you can think of. It is like when you grown up in a big family and you realize that your parents have a favorite child and it is not you. You don't blame the parents instead you blame the sibling.
Then the second thought is too improve what you have to offer, even though the company has already left. This is an admirable goal but it takes more than just an ideal on a whim. In order to improve, you have to truly understand what is wrong and how can you improve it. While you are complaining, you realized that you are bounded by a financial strain or lack of time. Meanwhile, as time goes by and you are somewhat content with the distraction of the thought of learning a new trade or going back to school. Maybe this will solve all of your problems and your life will be on a fast track to everything you have dream of. In reality though, your bills have to get paid and jobs are scarce. So you need to find a fall back, something to hold you over while you are trying to organize your goals. A job which most likely is in the industry of serving others. No matter what industry you decided to enter, the job will be the same. You will be serving a purpose for someone or serving someone.
The positive outlook is, you have a job. Even though, you are only making half of what you were before you job left to the third world country. After a couple of months of being trained to do your job to maximizes potential you begin to feel complete again. But now you want the same income you earn previously, In order to achieve this goal you will have to work over time. Sounds good because you will only agree to this for a short period. Remember you still have plans to go back to school or learn a new trade. Next thing you know, you have just spent a year working over time. So what is more important after a year or two, your personal time or your immediate financial goal? But what if the job you now have is also thinking about moving the company and the job you are doing is helping the company achieve their goals?
Look even if you go back to school doesn't guarantee you a decent career with job security. Of course it doesn't hurt either, but what you haven't realized is that education has change. Everything you had learned from your educational past is just a foot note to what kids are learning today. I imagine that over 70 % of average adults with a high school diploma and/or some college course would not graduate with over a 3.0 average. But you aren't just competing with American School students, you are competing on the world stage. Hopefully they are grading on a curve, if they aren't. you are in trouble. Globalization is here! my friends and it is going to be very difficult to survive in a nation that our ancestors fought for.
We are in a war but it is not with Iraq or terrorism. It is a war to keep our nation strong. Even though the experts proclaim that we are strong. In fact we as a nation are nothing more that a man who is on steroids. Yes he looks strong and feels strong, he can do things we can only imagine. But inside it is chaos. What do we hear happens to a person on steroids? Maybe he goes crazy and kill his whole family, or maybe he gets a dirty needle and dies of AIDS. Most likely He will lose all his humanity and goes berserk trying to seek more strength. Is this our nation? Is this what we have ended up being? I don't know for now, this is my first piece of a series of conversation discussing the reality of globalization.
