After you've had ample time to sample your tasty coffee (and the endless free refills thereof), you might just get a table. Be warned: you will have lots of time to peruse the menu. Just because you're seated doesn't mean you're getting food any time soon. Glo's has a tiny kitchen and the equivalent of one and half wait staff at any given time. Also, even though the place looks itty bitty, they can fit a surprising number of people in there at once. And let's be honest - it's Capitol Hill service. It takes its sweet time.
It might just be because I'm loyal to my neighborhood hangouts, but I really think Glo's food is worth the wait. They have a really good selection for a restaurant that wee - all your greasy spoon/ diner favorites and Pacific Northwest breakfast classics as well. While there are plenty of choices for carnivore types, there are lots of vegan and vegetarian options, too. One of the reasons Glo's is such a great place to go for brunch is because there's truly something for everyone on their menu.
More about Glo's menu options: Any of the scrambles with hashbrowns are wonderful, as are the huevos rancheros. They do a mean pancake plate, with a new type of special pancake every week or so, and a damned good French toast. If you're into cream cheese and jam, go for the stuffed French toast - so tasty! Although I don't usually order them, the eggs benedict and the variations thereof that they serve at Glo's are amazing. As for beverages other than good ever-full coffee, Glo's also has fresh squeezed orange juice, which is my second-favorite beverage with which to start the day.
If you're feeling poor, Glo's has a couple of good basic two egg breakfasts that are pretty cheap by Hill standards. Although really, you usually end up getting the equivalent of two meals for the price of one, so I figure any breakfast from Glo's is a good deal. Speaking of huge meals - the corned beef hash is very good and very big. Come hungry or be prepared for leftovers.
Glo's is at 1621 E Olive Way, near Summit St. and across the way from the Olive Way Starbucks and the site of a new park at John and Summit. It's open from 7am until 3pm on weekdays and is open from 9am until 4pm on the weekend.
