Glove Mouse Allows User to Interact with Computer Without Touching It

The continued evolution of a computer mouse is amazing. Computer mouses have come a long way from their original models. You can walk into any electronic store and find a mouse that incorporates better clicking, hand comfort, and design technologies to make your overall computer experience that much better. Engineers believe the next step in mouse evolution can only happen through giving the user more control. The Glove Mouse promises to get rid of the basic mouse concept forever.

A group of MIT students have been hard at work trying to create the Glove Mouse. According to information leaked from the group, these gloves will allow a user to control everything on their computer screen without ever touching it. You will be able to click on computer icons, guide through the internet, and even type by simply wearing these gloves. Technology like this is usually considered expensive but the students were able to do all of this for less than $100.

Taking a closer glimpse at the technology shows how it works. On the back of the Glove Mouse is an LED. This LED is located on the back of the index finger portion of the love. Linked to the index finger will be a low resolution webcam. The webcam will capture the movements of the index finger and help it act as a cursor on the computer screen. What results is the ability to actively guide throughout your computer without the assistance of a computer mouse.

Now imagine the capabilities once the technology is incorporated to each finger. This will allow for the flexibility needed to type on the computer screen without using any of the buttons. Technology like this will enable computer manufacturers to create a more innovative way of using your computer. Basically, this is the next step in evolution for the computer. We are currently enjoying the craze related to touchscreen technology but this new technology will enable someone to have a even more hands on experience when it comes to using the computer.

Watching a demonstration of the Glove Mouse is quite impressive. You are left wondering what else could this technology be used for in the near future. The MIT students have created something straight out of the movies. The last film that I saw that incorporated this type of technology was in the movie Minority Report (check it out). This is the future of the mouse and can change the way we look at using a computer forever.
