Glowing Fluorescent Keyboard Stickers by 4Keyboard.Com: A Review

Annie Jean Brewer
One common complaint about using computers at night is the inability to clearly see the keyboard letters in low light. Students, travelers and others have suffered from this issue since computers were invented.

There are several brands of fluorescent keyboard stickers available but a number of them have poor reviews. When I failed to locate a negative review about the keyboard stickers offered by 4Keyboard I splurged for a set.

The stickers were placed in a small envelope which was then placed within a small box to prevent any chance of the stickers getting bent or damaged in transit. They were on a single sheet of material and to my delight glowed brightly in the ambient light available.

I placed a few upon my laptop keys and looked at them with nothing but the monitor for light. The stickered keys stood brightly out, while the regular keys were hard to see. Some of the stickers were too large for my laptop's keys, but that was quickly remedied with a pair of scissors. Also this sticker set does not have a sticker for the Fn button commonly on laptops, so I had to make one out of two unused stickers. It did come with Windows keys and another version of the stickers is available for Mac computers.

Even beneath the silicone keyboard protector these stickers glow bright and are easy to see. The large letters make it easy on the eyes in the semidarkness that I am typing this article in, and really pop when I remove the silicone keyboard protector.

These particular stickers are a fluorescent yellow with a black background; they would probably look strange on a light-colored keyboard but there is no possibility of mistaking one key for another with these stickers! This reviewer was concerned that the silicone protector would render even these stickers hard to see in semidarkness, but it is obvious that my concerns were unfounded.

This particular company has a variety of keyboard stickers: they carry Mac stickers, alternative keyboard layout stickers (For Dvorak, Colemak, French Bepo and other keyboards), editing stickers, learning stickers as well as the glowing keyboard stickers that I ordered. They even have Commodore 64 stickers and some that are entirely blank!

The only downsides I have seen with these stickers is that it does not contain a Fn key sticker for laptops and some stickers may have to be cut down on smaller laptop keyboards. The price is reasonable (less than $10 as of 2011) and the material that the stickers are made of cannot easily be torn by hand. I tried to tear a small piece and was unable to do so, but a stronger person may be able to tear the material.

These stickers would be an asset to anyone who uses their computer at night, has poor vision, or has an older keyboard with faded lettering. I highly recommend this product for those uses or for anyone who wants to see their keyboard letters better.
