Just because you need to eat gluten free does not mean you can't enjoy eating at the Wisconsin State Fair. There are lots of yummy gluten free choices if you know where to go.
Robert's Restaurant - Area Don Grandstand Avenue
I can't wait to try Robert's gluten free Chicken Breast Sandwich. The broiled chicken breast will be served on a gluten free bun and will be topped with lettuce, tomato, and gluten free pesto mayo sauce.
New Berlin Lions Club - Central Avenue
My absolute favorite is the roasted corn. I eat at least 2 ears of the roasted corn every year and for just $2.50 an ear it is a steal compared to many fair foods. The fact that the proceeds to go charities makes the corn taste even better and seem like the best deal of the fair.
Wisconsin Product Pavilion
The Wisconsin Products Pavilion offers a multitude of different gluten free menu options. Breakfast, lunch, or dinner can be found gluten free within the Wisconsin Products Pavilion
Baked Potatoes - A great gluten free food of the Wisconsin State Fair are the potatoes available in the Wisconsin Product Pavilion. The potatoes are under $5 and you can choose available toppings are usually sour cream, chives, cheese, and salsa.
Omelette's - Served hot throughout the day.
Ice cream sundaes - Great for the hot days of the Wisconsin State Fair.
Honey Candy and Ice Cream - I enjoy honey but I have yet to try the Honey flavored ice cream, maybe this year I will be adventurous.
Lamb - Just skip the bun. Great way to expand your protein horizons.
Herb Kohl Milk House - Grandstand Avenue
The always popular and cheap (Just $0.50 a cup) Herb Kohl Milk House is a great gluten free tradition of the Wisconsin State Fair. I always use my buy one get one free coupon and get a strawberry and a chocolate and then mix them together for a yummy treat. There are five flavors available Banana, Strawberry, Cherry Vanilla, Chocolate, and Root Beer.
Saz's BBQ - Multiple Locations
Saz's barbeque sauce is gluten free, so you can enjoy Saz's famous Baby Back Ribs. Don't want ribs? Just order the barbeque chicken or pork sandwiches without the bun.
Benno's Microtent - Area D
Gluten free beer is available at the Wisconsin State Fair. Did you really think a state that is known for their beer would not have a gluten free option?
Charcoal Grill - Map Area E: in the Big Backyard next to the Natural Resources Park
If you've ever visited a Charcoal Grill outside of the Wisconsin State Fair then you already know that Charcoal Grill does not add gluten to their meats. Charcoal Grill offers their ever popular Turkey Legs and Rotisserie Chicken at the fair.
Steak Stop
I am not familiar with the Steak Stop but I will be stopping by this year to try their Char Grilled Veggie Bowl. Sounds delish!
Leadfoot Bar and Grill
A great alternative to the greasy, fried foods of the fair is Leadfoot's Fruit Kabob. Couldn't find a description but I will definitely have to check into the kabob.
Throughout the fair I am sure you can find many other gluten free food options. If in doubt ask the vendor, the more people who ask the more aware the vendors will become to the gluten free need. Look for cheeses, pickles, chocolates, apples, cherries, cranberries, and more.
