Gluten-Free Fourth of July Dishes You Will Love

Lisa Mason
With Fourth of July right around the corner, it's time to start planning your holiday dinner. This is the perfect time for family and friends to get together and catch up on recent events while enjoying a wonderful meal together. However, when you have food allergies, especially to gluten, it can be a little harder coming up with delicious holiday dishes. Gluten is an ingredient used in a wide variety of common everyday foods such as flour and cooking oil. The good news is with more and more people suffering from gluten allergies, more gluten-free ingredients are available, making it possible for more recipes to make their way to the dinner table for the holidays.

Gluten-free Creamy Scalloped Potatoes

Scalloped potatoes are an excellent side dish and Allergy Free Cooking has a recipe for this dish designed for those on a gluten-free diet. You prepare this dish in the same way as normal except you replace some of the ingredients with gluten-free ones. For example, instead of regular flour, use a combination of rice flour and tapioca flour. You'll also use almond milk and gluten-free cheese instead of regular dairy products, then prepare and cook as normal.

Gluten-free Corn Bread

Cornbread is a big part of many Fourth of July dinners and you can continue to enjoy it simply by replacing some of the ingredients. Use flax meal and a combination of rice flour and tapioca flour instead of regular brands and switch dairy milk for almond milk. Mix ingredients and cook as usual and you can enjoy a tasty cornbread with your gluten-free holiday dinner.

Gluten-free French Fries

Adults are not the only ones who may be on a gluten-free diet. Many kids need to adjust their meals too. Therefore, you want to have something available that may be more appealing to children since they can be picky at times. Most kids love French fries and according to Celiac.com, there is a recipe just for those on a gluten-free diet. Slice potatoes to meet your specification, dip in a homemade batter, place fries in a gluten-free cooking oil and fry until golden brown.

Gluten-free Cheesecake

Just because you're on a gluten-free diet, does not mean that you have to skip desert. Several recipes are available that use a variety of ingredients to make the crust that includes everything from gluten-free baking mix to crushed walnuts or pecans. Substitute regular cream cheese with a gluten free brand. Add your favorite topping, chill and you're ready for desert.
