"Pasta, pretzels, even bread!" I was practically shouting to my son-in-law. If you don't have an allergy or intolerance to gluten, a protein that comes from wheat, barely and rye, you probably never noticed just how many things gluten is in. Just for kicks, to see what it's like, start reading the labels of everything you eat. Remember, no wheat, barley, or rye. If the ingredients list looks clear, a lot of times at the bottom is will say: "may contain wheat". This is because cross contamination occurs during processing.
Because of this and lack of grocery store funding over the last couple weeks, I have been stuck with only fresh meat and fruits and vegetables. Yes, this is healthier, but not exactly satisfying. Sometimes you just want a little bread. The food in the gluten free aisle is a little more expensive, and the boxes appear smaller. That's OK though, I'm not going to stuff myself with it, just need little nibble now and then.
Glutino Gluten/Wheat Free Crackers-Taste
I was pleasantly surprised at how good these crackers tasted. Plain, not so much, but with the tiniest piece of cheese on it, the taste was great. They just need a little something to spice them up a bit. As long at there's just a touch of topping, Glutino crackers are great.
Glutino Gluten/Wheat Free Crackers-Texture
The texture is a bit flatter than we are used to in a cracker. I believe that's where the need for a little topping comes in. Almost like a saltine, but more solid and definitely not as salty. The appearance of them is that of a Ritz cracker.
Glutino Gluten/Wheat Free Crackers-Nutrition Information
Serving size is four crackers. Calories is 140 per four crackers. Total carbohydrates is 22 g, so be careful in sticking with the small serving they suggest. White rice flour is used in place of other typical wheat based products. It's important to remember, these are indeed a snack, not something to eat in excess. The calories and carbohydrates will add up fast unless you just use them as an emergency snack nibble. You know, those times where you really miss the comfort of starchy foods.
Glutino Gluten/Wheat Free Crackers-Price
A 4.4 ounce box has two individual packages inside. This is great because since only a little is eaten at a time, they won't go stale. This 4.4 ounce box costs $3.99 at Giant grocery store.
Glutino Gluten/Wheat Free Crackers-Overall Review
I was very happy with the price and taste of Glutino Crackers and would recommend them to anyone with a gluten intolerance or allergy. A gluten allergy is also known as celiac disease. An intolerance isn't as extreme, but the symptoms can be awful. Sticking to the diet will be easy with products like this available.
