AHA treatments aren't only for aging skin. It also is used for the treatment of acne, skin scars, white heads, Psoriasis, Dry skin and even pre-Cancerous growths. Though there are Glycolic Acid or AHA products, it is still wiser to go to your dermatologist and ask about AHA treatments. There are times when your dermatologist will tell you that a glycolic acid wash, for instance, is better than microdermabrasion or even dermabrasion. A dermatologist would know the right strength that your particular skin problem "needs".
For instance, a Glycolic acid peel done by using a higher concentration can give you face peel and may make your face smoother, younger and lessen your wrinkles and scar marks. Initially, after a Glycolic Acid peel, you may feel a tingling feeling and your face was seem to turn red for days but this usually subsides. A Glycolic Acid feel also promotes cell renewal and encourages "new skin" growth. This "new skin" holds moisture better and naturally reduces laugh lines and wrinkles. There may also be those who simply need the treatment because they wish to get rid of some pimple scars. Different types of Glycolic acid treatments are therefore determined by the dermatologist.
There may be those who feel that they would rather buy AHA products without having to seek help from a dermatologist. While there are many AHA products in the market these days, choose one which has about only 12&% glycolic acid particularly when you've never tried AHA before. There are several good and reliable brands that offer a line of AHA products from face washes to peeling cream. Start by washing your face with a AHA facial wash or soap. The best ones are those that are mixed with "natural ingredients". My favorite however, and the one that works best for me is an AHA sea weed soap. It depends on what best suits your skin.
There are some skin types that seem to get dry after using a Glycolic Acid wash. If you feel that this suddenly seems to happen to your face, you can use a mild moisturizer after washing your face, though there are also some AHA creams that have moisturizers that you can purchase. Some however, use a mild non-AHA soap and then apply the AHA-moisturizer. Either or works and improves the skin.
Glycolic acid peels (do-it-yourself) are also available usually in 3 kinds of strengths. If you only have minor face problems like discolorations, minor acne scars and whiteheads you may choose the one with the weakest strength. This will peel your skin but it won't seem to burn your skin. If your problem is wrinkles, prominent age spots and you feel you need something stronger, you can try the stronger AHA peel treatments. Be sure to expect however that your facial skin will appear to be "red" for about three days (sometimes more) but will definitely improve. You may also feel a burning sensation while doing your own AHA peel.
While your face is peeling and "red" try and use only water and dab lightly . Do not use any harsh soaps after a peel. Drink plenty of water during the treatment because this too will aid in keeping your face hydrated while the healing in your face is going on after the skin peel.
Glycolic Acid facial treatments vary. Some opt to try the treatment because they wish to get of pimple scars while some choose it to delay wrinkles. Whatever the case may be, AHA treatments and products are a better (and cheaper) alternative to surgical dermabrasion or other invasive facial procedures. Best of all, it does work for about 80 percent of those who try these treatments and products.
