Speaking about it to media persons, the president of the GM India, Mr Karl Slym said "We hold a market share of 3.5 percent, and are positioned 5th in the list of passenger car manufacturers. Since the new mini car would be priced around Rs 4 lakh, we expect a higher growth in this fiscal year.
Mr. Slym said that they also expected to the new Chevy Spark LPG version to do well in the small car segment. He said that the after a year it would be exported to other GM markets. To make be price competitive, it would have high amount of localization content. The Indian subsidiary of General Motors would remain focused on Chevrolet brand of cars for the country.
In 2008, GM India had sold 65.072 units of cars, thereby registering a growth of 9.6 percent over the previous year.
