GMAC Bowl Prediction

Shelley
9th Annual GMAC Bowl Prediction: After three weeks, the college football bowl series is coming to an end. This will be the second-to-last college bowl game of the season. Kickoff for the 9th annual GMAC Bowl will feature the Bowling Green Falcons (8-4) and Tulsa Golden Hurricane (9-4). The game is scheduled for January 6, 2008, 7:00 p.m. CST. at Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile, Alabama.

This game will feature two high-powered offenses. This season both teams have combined for almost 900 points. Forecasters have projected both teams to combine for over 75 points. Both quarterbacks are expected to have big games. Tulsa is favored by 4.5 points. However, Tulsa has a 3-3-5 defense that has struggled giving up 460 points this season (over 35 points per game).

Bowling Green presents an explosive offense with Tyler Sheehan at quarterback and triple treat Anthony Turner. Turner can line up under center, in the backfield, as a wide out (Turner started last season at quarterback). He can be compared to a Kordell Stuart type of player. Like Tulsa, Bowling Green has given up almost as many points as they have scored.

While the Tulsa defense created few turnovers this season, senior linebacker Chris Chamberlain anchors them. He leads conference USA in tackles with 148. The Golden Hurricane's offensive attack is led by Senior quarterback Paul Smith. This season, Smith has passed for 4,753 yards and 42 touchdowns. At the wide receiver position he has Brennan Marion who had 1,244 receiving yards with a 31.9-yard average. Freshman Trae Johnson led the team in catches with 67 for 1,039 yards. With 45 yards receiving in the GMAC Bowl, fullback Charles Clay could be the third member of the 1,000-yard receiving club. At the running back position, Tarrion Adams has all ready rushed for over 1,100 yards. This team is full of play makers and is fully capable of scoring in the final second is needed.

My Prediction: Bowling Green: 42, Tulsa 45
