The first task at hand was to raise forty to fifty million dollars for this big party. The sponsor city has to provide all the money for this big convention. Raising that kind of cash should not be any problem. Donors were waiting in lines to step up to the plate and give more than their fair share. As the months go by for some reason the donors have not eagerly pledged their support to finance this gigantic venture for the city of Denver. Last month the final deadline was missed by eleven million dollars. Is there a chance that this venture is not as lucrative as originally presented? Oh, by the way, this convention is also going to draw thousands of demonstrators and protesters to the fair city of Denver.
Recently the key to the Pepsi center (the place where the convention is to be held) was handed over to The DNC. Immediately the destruction of the Pepsi sports arena was started by tearing out rows of seats and adding stages and platforms the fit the needs of the DNC. If the final eleven million dollar donation is not generated does that mean that the DNC can walk away from the trashing of the Pepsi Center and the City of Denver will have to pay for the expense of turning back the sports arena so that the Denver Nuggets and the Colorado Avalanche will have a place to play their games this fall?
Recently I see in the paper that the city of Denver is going to try and hide the homeless during the convention by providing bus tickets and movie tickets or a visit to the museums and the zoo. The world cannot know that we are a large metro area with our normal share of homeless. I wonder if they are offering bus tickets to return when this great convention is over.
Then someone came up with the brilliant idea to move Obama's acceptance speech from the Pepsi Center to the larger football stadium of INVESCO Field. I guess If you are a rock star you need the largest seating facilities available. This entire convention is getting a little out of hand.
The final straw was when I heard that the Obama speech will close Interstate 25 which just runs east of INVESCO Field. Interstate 25 is the busiest north-south highway in the rocky mountain west. One more inconvenience we have to live through. That is enough, I have had it. I wish the DNC would just go away!
I am willing to live without the boon to Denver. In the last sixty years I have seen the Denver metro area grow from a nice enjoyable city to a large congested metropolis that has all its facilities such as water and highways pushed to their maximum capacities. I do not consider more growth as a boon to the city. It is time to stop encouraging more people to move to this area. Maybe if Denver residents would stop watering their lawns so that they get good and brown, jack up one of their vehicles so that it looks in need of repair and desert downtown Denver during the convention, the conventioneers may get the lasting impression that the area is a loser.
I am an unaffiliated voter or one of those swing votes that Obama needs to win the election. With thirty-seven days left before the DNC I am almost convinced to cast my vote for the opposing candidate. What I see from this DNC is waste and disruptions. It is going to take a lot to get my vote now.

Post a CommentWell, you can't expect the Messiah to speak at the Pepsi auditorium can you? Don't you get it Brother? For the Messiah to give a Sermon on the Mount ya need mountains. What is just west of Denver? Now you're feeling me. I'm gonna pen an article about his later today, so keep an eye out if you're interested. Oh, and let's not forget, even though the Messiah is the presumptive nominee, Re-Create '68, that group that thinks the Chicago Dem Convention in 1968 was the greatest ever, was in the news this morning announcing their plans to be at the convention. How nice for Denver.
