Karen Reams
Bermuda sits north of the Caribbean Sea and is popular with many people including famous celebrities. It is not just the place to go for fantastic golfing, as there is much more on offer on the island of Bermuda.

If you are a knowledgeable golfer than you don't need me to tell you that Bermuda is one of the best island destinations for golfing. Bermuda is home to eight championship courses and with the fact that Bermuda has a small square mileage it is almost an impossibility to spend time there without seeing one of its pristine greens.

Celebrities from all round the world travel to Bermuda to enjoy time on the golf courses with each offering its own set of challenges. Each of the 8 golf courses is top notch such as the Port Royal Course which provides a great challenge on the 16th hole as it is situated with a sheer cliff to its back and sits on the ocean.

But of course each course is beautiful and all providing at least one or two holes with an ocean view.

The Fairmont Southampton Golf Club is possibly the most photographed course on the island as it boasts not just beautiful views but also has wonderful tropical flowers and rolling hills throughout.

Not all courses on the beautiful island of Bermuda are open for casual players. The Mid Ocean Club and Riddell's Bay Golf and Country Club are both private clubs requiring membership but Port Royal and The Fairmont are both open to the casual visitor.

And thanks to an exclusive arrangement guests of the Fairmont can play alongside certified members.

What else is there to do on Bermuda/ well the shores surrounding this island are a worthy playing field for any traveler. Bermuda amongst the world's top sailing destinations and it is here you will find the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club.

Thanks to Bermuda's strong breezes and year round temperate climate it is an ideal spot for sailing. Each summer sees the biannual Newport Bermuda Race with hundreds of boats speeding from Newport, Rhode Island to the finish line at St. David's Head.

Bermuda also offers plenty of sight seeing. The capital city of Hamilton is where you will find plenty of 19th century constructions such as homes, monuments, government buildings and churches.

Take a visit to St. Theresa's Catholic Cathedral you can take a look at a gold and silver chalice that was given to the church by Pope Paul VI in the 1960's.

Of course one of the most historic places to be found in Bermuda is located just outside Hamilton and is the Royal Naval Dockyard that dates back more than 200 years. The Dockyard was used as a British outpost during the War of 1812. Today is has been transformed into a dining and shopping area with the historical buildings being home to a variety of restaurants and boutiques.

Whilst visiting the Royal naval Dockyard you can also visit the Bermuda maritime Museum and the former Commissioner's House as this will give you a better sense of the area's history.

Bermuda is easy to get to with the gateway airport being St. George's Parish (BDA). For entry you will need a passport and roundtrip airline tickets.
