Go Green with Eco-friendly Coffees, Coffee Makers and Coffee Accessories

We all wake up every morning and drag our semi-conscious self to our coffee makers. That fresh cup of java in the morning wakes us up and prepares us for our day. Now there's another reason for you to enjoy your morning coffee. Knowing it is eco-friendly! Here's how:

1.) Organic Coffee Beans
Buy Organic

This is where it all starts. The coffee bean is the single most essential part of your coffee experience. The best types of coffee beans are the organic types. These beans are grown without the use of pesticides or herbicides. This is beneficial to both the grower and the drinker. That is not the only thing that makes organic coffee beans organic, but it's the basic necessity. Certified organic coffee beans can also be Eco-friendly in many deeper ways from using recycling, composting, soil health, and environmental protection.

After the use of the grounds, they are an excellent fertilizer for your gardens!

2.) Coffee Filters
Buy Them Here!

The next step in your coffee journey is the filtering. All that brash harshness of the naked coffee bean needs to be tamed somehow. Think about all of the coffee filters you throw away everyday. The single easiest way to correct this problem is to buy reusable cloth filters. Sounds kind of nasty right? Wrong. In fact, it will actually take away that paper taste you sometimes get with paper filters. They are easily washed and re-used as well. Opt for the ones with the unbleached cotton. As a plus, the more you use them, the more the coffee taste will sink into the cotton making your java better and better every time.

3.) Coffee Makers
Find Green Coffee Makers Here!

This is where the marriage between your coffee beans, coffee filters, and boiling hot water begins! Although they are relatively simple devices, you should learn more about the coffee maker before you purchase one. Or simply change the way you use it. The first step is to find a coffee maker that uses the least amount of energy and produces the greatest amount of coffee. It is best to make all of your daily coffee at once and steer away from single use makers as they have many non-eco-friendly cons. If you do make just one cup a day this does not apply to you. Once you have found an efficient coffee maker, that is the end of this step. (P.S, go for the drip roasters instead of the single cup brewers.)

4.) Coffee Cups
Buy Green Cups Here!

Most of you don't think of this step do you? How many to-go cups of coffee do you purchase in a single day? that's about how many you throw away. You can immediately eliminate that waste by buying your own Eco-friendly cup and re-using it. Most coffee shops will fill your cup for you instead of using the ones they normally supply. Get yourself a nice thermal one that is made mostly of recycled materials to go that extra mile. Remember, if you were to have 2 cups of to-go coffee a day, that's about 750 cups that you throw away each year. There are literally millions of coffee drinkers. Do the math!

5.) Recycle

There are several ways you can use or re-use your waste. Coffee grounds, for example, are an excellent fertilizer. Not only that, they smell great! Take your old coffee grounds and either use them again in your next brew, or spread them on your lawn or, preferably, in your garden. This will enrich the soil and lead to a more successful garden!

You can also recycle your coffee maker at your local recycling complex if it should ever fail on you. Some of you probably burn these suckers out pretty fast, and you are probably the same people who are bouncing off the walls at work! Just kidding! It's also best to recycle anything you plan to throw out, should it be made of a recyclable material.
