There are many things to consider when going green. We recycle, watch water and energy consumption, offset carbon emissions and use eco-friendly products. All of these add up to saving our planet. Scientists said if we reduce our CO2 carbon emissions by 70% in the next few years, we can avert the global warming disasters they predict. Follow these tips to get there.

Plant a tree. Trees offset carbon emissions although there are many factors to consider, such as older trees offset more carbon emission than younger trees. You can also sponsor trees in rainforests to offset carbon emissions. These trees are cheaper to sponsor than those in the United States. Find them at Carbonfund.org.

Visit Carbonfund.org and find carbon-free certified products. You will find coffee, sugar, beverages, books, cell phones, specialty foods and other carbon-free products.

Call a taxi, ride a bike, walk or use public transportation today. Using these alternatives means you are not paying for insurance, upkeep or support of a vehicle.

Go here and cancel unsolicited delivery of telephone books. You can call and order one whenever you need it. Every year, 540 million unsolicited phone books are delivered.

Change all your bills so they are paid on-line. If every home in the USA did this, solid waste would be reduced by 1.6 billion tons a year and CO2 carbon emissions by 2.1 million tons per year.

Check your showerhead. If it fills a one-gallon bucket in less than 20 seconds, find a water efficient model to replace it with. You can save up to 750 gallons per month with an efficient shower head.

Go to the hardware store and purchase WaterSense aerators for all your taps. They give you a 30% reduction in water and energy use on every faucet.
