Start small. Even the smallest changes make a big difference. Changing the light bulbs in your home to the new halogen bulbs that require less energy can be a big eco-friendly change. You will save on energy needs and save money. The halogen bulbs also last a lot longer and save on waste materials making them another way to be eco-friendly.
Using energy efficient appliances is another way to make eco-friendly home improvements. The next time you go out to buy a new refrigerator, washer, dryer or any other appliance, check to see if it is energy efficient. Buy using energy efficient appliances you are saving energy and also saving money. While that doesn't seem like much improvement, if everyone was to use energy efficient appliances we could cut down on a major amount of air pollution caused by energy fields. Most energy efficient appliances are priced with in the same amount of a non-energy efficient appliances. Occasionally you will find them on sale and get them cheaper then you would something that is not energy efficient. A lot of dealers are putting them on sale in order to promote them to help home-owners be more eco-friendly.
Other improvements such as double pained or thermal windows is another way to go when working on eco-friendly home improvements. They help block the heat in the summer time and provide more insulation in the winter cutting down on heating needs. If you don't need new windows but would like more energy efficient window treatment then tinting the windows with a dark window tint would be another option. Not only will it cut down on heating and cooling, it too, will be an eco-friendly home improvement.
A much greater eco-friendly home improvement would be solar power. Converting your power source to solar energy can save you hundreds of dollars a month and save the earth at the same time. While converting your whole house to solar power could be a small fortune, you could install smaller solar panels that could help to dramatically decrease energy used from commercial means saving you money and saving energy.
While these are only a few ways to make eco-friendly home improvements, there are several others ways you could help to save the earth. Any changes that help to save power, reduce waste and water usage, and cut down on pollutants put into the air would be a great way to make eco-friendly home improvements.
