I am an undergraduate student living in St. Paul, Minnesota and I am planning to move to Portland, Oregon to attend the Art Institute of Portland the coming summer 2007. At first I was planning to travel by flight, but the fare ticket they had available at the time was a tad too expensive so I decide to find an alternative way to travel without spending too much. Then a friend suggest me to travel through Greyhound, it's cheaper, it's smarter but slower and the process of checking baggage aren't a problem my friend explain. At first I was very skeptical but after hearing his story I had to try it at least once. He then introduced me to the greyhound website and I had my one way ticket fare purchased immediately, then fare cost was very affordable, it cost around eighty bucks so that's a good fare.
While the price is right I also had to see if the trip is safe or if the experience is rewarding and later I found that it is. On July 3, I immediately went to the Greyhound Station in my hometown of St. Paul to have my baggage check then I waited like thirty minutes before my schedule bus arrive. When it does arrived, I was prepare, I had two baggage but only one that can't be taken inside the bus, the other is a bit portable so I can take it inside if I want to. Due to limitation, Greyhound only lets you carry two baggage small baggage for taken inside the bus and only two that can be store under the bus also Greyhound won't allowed any plastic or paper baggage since they can be easily torn.
I had to say my trip through Greyhound went without problems, there are a lot of different interesting people travel through Greyhound as well, almost all of them are very well polite, even the Greyhound employee themselves. I am also glad that Greyhound had a small restroom inside incase if customer like myself really need to use it. It's also a breeze to travel since you get to see a lot of interesting places, such cool places I've seen includes St. Cloud, Fargo, Billings, Missoula, Spokane, Seattle, Vancouver, and finally Portland itself. I am also glad that Greyhound stop at rest area that are in a very convenience locations like fast food restaurant and gas station store. Even though the trip went without problems, the trip can also be tiresome at time, a lot during the trip, the Greyhound had to change driver five times and change bus three times. It's good that they do that but it can be tiresome for the customers. Also another downside to it is that if you are sitting in a seat with someone else, if night comes, it's very uncomfortable to sleep or to go to sleep for that matter, but beside that Greyhound actually succeed what I want it to.
I actually arrived in Portland, Oregon on the exact day I was supposed to schedule to go for my orientation at the Art Institute of Portland. Traveling through Greyhound was a great trip and a smart one at that, if you are traveling in the U.S. and can't afford flight tickets or you want to see some wonderful places, choose Greyhound, trust me you won't regret it. Though it might feel comfortable at first, you had to get used to it all throughout your trip; otherwise, you might not get a good night sleep from your long travel. I think I actually got one good night sleep from traveling through Greyhound, but overall it's a good alternative to a flight trip.
