Go Jump into a Lakefront: A Review of Lakefront IPA from Lakefront Brewery

I've come to a gentleman's agreement with myself, despite the fact that I am both a scalawag and a compromised dolt, that if an IPA (India Pale Ale) tastes appealing to me then it surely is rubbish to the rest of the world and vice versa.

IPAs by style are a hoppy beer. Many beer enthusiasts describe the pungent, sometimes citrusy, earthy and herbal flavor as an acquired taste and the sentiment reaches its apex in the reasoning that an advanced palate has evolved when it accepts this aspect as a superior trait of a great beer. My sweet tooth and I are not so inclined towards this way of thinking.

What I'm trying to say is that this brew is not to my liking. And since I don't like it therefore it must be good. Truly, I must be the bloated intestines of some Rene Descartes of beery quaffdom because I think and yet I do not co-exist on a peaceful plane with this beer and most other IPAs.

That said, of all those IPAs that I don't like, this is at the top of the list of those which I almost like. It has all the IPA qualities you nut-grubbers enjoy and stanky hops a-plenty for when the goatee brigade of beer-belly sow-boys with a half-paycheck full of spunk and nearly no lack of bravado get together and splurge and purge their dignity in the name of craft-beeriness. What a peculiar lot you beer geeks are!

Yet, I will tell you this much: it is a maltburger supreme and if Lakefront had gone the wheat or rye route with this ale I'd be putting my dollar store mustache into the bottle right now while making righteous, bittersweet and metaphysical love to it's golden essence.

Yep, the middle ground beers sometimes do the trick better than the award winning extreme brews. I must say that after tasting a good 500 different craft beers that beer is still just beer and all obviously have their place.

I enjoy Lakefront IPA. Very basic, but good. I have found myself turning away from the hopbombs that I have loved and looking more toward more malty beers. Maybe I am gaining some appreciation that I didnt have before.
