The nation express unanimous faith and confidence on swimming-Olympic phenomenon, Michael Phelps' successfully bringing home the "bacons" of eight gold medals that he vowed to his countrymen, as he beat the world record of senior American Swimmer Olympian, Mark Spitz marked in history of Olympics year 1972.

Phelps after winning big on Men's 100-M Butterfly had earned not only the confidence of the American people, but, the admiration of the world.

In an interview of TODAY (aired in NBC) co-host Matt Lauer on Phelps and Spitz, where the latter who remains undefeated still (as of press time) of his wold record on Olympic gold achievements, have expressed high hopes and confidence on 23-year old Phelps.

"Listen, this has lasted for 36 years," it's a long time. It's about time that somebody else takes the throne. And I'm very happy for him. I really truly am," said Spitz..

"You know, there's a lot of pressure that he's going to have on his shoulders over the next number of years. I think he'll weather it just fine, and I'm going to be rooting him on," he added.

With humility Phelps returned the compliments and confessed on air, that fellow American athletes like Spitz who have brought home pride and glory in the Olympics had been his inspiration all this time.

Among the events that Phelps successfully completed, his 7th gold medal on Men's 100-M Butterfly had been the most dramatic and sensational of them all, after an amazing comeback on the race, beating Serbia's Milorad Cavic by just one-hundredth of a second.

Serbia team even protested, but a frame by frame slow motioned replay concluded and confirmed Michael Phelps and US' victory.

It can be recalled that in pool, Phelps failed only once to beat the record, but, still got the gold medal at the last leg of the 100M.

Phelps fate tonight is not solely on his hands, his three team mates has something to give, all has to come up with their greatest race too, for Phelps to chase his eight record breaking gold.

His coach in Athens where he bagged six gold medals, Bob Bowman pose the biggest threat to Phelp's quest for Olympic immortality.

"The biggest threat to the eight is the French in the relay, they have posted the best times coming into Beijing and it will be a fierce battle," Bowman said.

Some also fears that Phelps might be facing his greatest individual challenge in the 200-M individual finals against fellow American and teammate Ryan Lochte tonight.

But, the voice of the people, even the ones from other countries, has so much faith on Michael.

As many say, "Phelps really got the heart of a champ, strength and courage of an American". Win or lose now he has proven so much and he made America so proud of him already.

We wish you luck Michael, GO PHELPS, GO!
