"You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet" (Bachman Turner Overdrive)
True the lyrics have really nothing to do with anything athletic. But the chorus is what gets people hyped because it is sort of a taunt to the other team to let them know that they are about to receive a special kind of butt kicking courtesy of their boys. Plus everyone knows the guitar rife and gets excited whenever they hear it. A must to add to your list.
"Rock and Roll Part 2" (Gary Glitter)
Although there are no real words to this song (with the exception of "hey") this song has been used in many sports movies such as The Sandlot and The Mighty Ducks franchise. Everyone will recognize this song and will no doubt enjoy the simplicity of it especially if they've been partaking of beer before the big game.
"Let's Get It Started" (Black-Eyed Peas)
This was actually used in a NBA promo a couple of years back and when you hear the song you know why. Just from the title alone implies getting the game started, getting the season started, getting the butt stomping started; it just goes on and on. Plus the sound of the music just gets you hyped up as well causing you to want to start dancing and shaking your fists to support your team. An interesting side note: the original track on the Elephunk album was actually called "Let's Get Retarded" and they Black-Eyed Peas changed it specifically for the NBA commercial.
"Eye of the Tiger" (Survivor)
Rocky fans rejoice! This song has made it into the hall of fame of tailgating songs because of how pumped it gets you whenever you hear it. Just with the lyric "Rising up to the challenge of our rival" is enough to get someone ready to watch any kind of sporting event.
"Mama Said Knock You Out" (LL Cool J)
From the opening line "Don't call it a comeback" this song gets you ready to fight and face a rival. And the chorus helps to keep the edge with LL screaming "I'm gonna knock you out; Mama said knock you out"! I mean the bass line on this song alone helps to get you energized and ready to see a good match in football. Awesome song to get you pumped.
"Hells Bells" (AC/DC)
With lyrics like "I won't take no prisoners" this song can be used as a scare tactic for the other team to get them prepared for the beat down they are going to get during the game. And since it's AC/DC you know that it has a good rock sound to it. Get ready to ring the bells of hell with this song and get fellow fans pumped up.
"Number One" (Nelly)
Once again this has no overt sport connotation to it; however you can get behind the message of being the best. With his cocky (but accurate) lines such as "Two is not a winner and three nobody remembers, I am number one" this song is certainly one that will get you pumped for the big game.
"The Time is Now" (John Cena)
First off all this is by one of most recognized wrestlers in WWF history. Plus from the get-go this lyric comes out of the box with such smack talking as "Your time is up, my time is now." This song just seems to ooze confidence, much like Nelly's "Number One".
"WHOOMP! There it is" (Tag Team)
Okay yeah this song is kind of old and somewhat corny. But there is something infectious about it plus you can't deny some of the lines also go along with the trash talking that is apart of sports. "I'm about to show you folks what it's all about" is enough to help make any tailgating party a success since it is also very confident which is a must in all things sports.
"We Will Rock You" / "We Are the Champions" (Queen)
Seriously. Nothing more needs be said.
There you have it some songs that should help make your tailgating energetic and get you pumped up for the game. Go team!
