Outdoor Adventures in the Hocking Hills

Tara Dodrill
Looking forward to a getaway in the lush wilderness of the Hocking Hills Region? Planning ahead before traveling to the hills of southern Ohio lessens the chance that you will miss something that the locale has to offer. While the Hocking Hills is well known as a romantic weekend getaway, there are a host of outdoor adventures just waiting for you to step out of your luxury cabin and enjoy.

Acres of serene hiking trails have a new neighbor - the Ogo. This larger than life inflated orbs take you on a twisting excursion through an outdoor trail. Invited by a trio of thrill seeking men in New Zealand, the Ogo is rapidly making its' way across the United States at outdoor theme parks. Imagine going end-over-end and re-enacting the thrill you once felt rolling down an incline as a child. Watch from inside the inflatable bubble as full-grown men race toward you and give you a shove which sends you tumbling on a "Whee" filled adventure.

The Ogo is lifted over your head by several adult, and zipped close before you begin your jaunt over a hill and through a winding track at the bottom. Much like sleigh riding, once you disembark, back up the hill you will go to do it all over again. Riders can go alone, with up to two friends, or with children. The H2Ogo adds water to the mix, allowing riders to get cooled off and slide around inside while rolling through the course. Enjoy a momentary escape from reality while swerving and giggling all the way to the bottom. Get dizzy while riding the through nature in your own personal rollercoaster.

The Hocking Peaks Outdoor Adventure Park added the Ogo to the list of nature based attractions in the summer of 2010. The park is located less than 5 miles from Old Man's Cave and the Hocking Hills State Park. Located in the heart of all the action, you won't have to waste precious vacation time wandering around for miles looking for something exciting to do. In addition to the Ogo, ATV trails, bicycle rentals, rappelling, paintball, zipline and aerial obstacle course, and ATV obstacle games are also available at this Hocking Hills attraction.

The outdoor theme park offers all-inclusive packages which include lodging and your personally selected adventure activities. Leave the five star resorts and concrete commercialized attractions for someone else, and breathe in the fresh air of the Hocking Hills while creating memories which will last a lifetime. This multi-generational attraction offers a you a glimpse into a whole new world of outdoor pursuits designed for twenty-first century travelers.

The OGO was an idea which sprang from a conversation during an afternoon walk by two brothers in New Zealand. Andrew and David Akers designed the orb, and Chris Roberts has been busy bringing it to select locations in the United States.
