Goal!

Nintendo Entertainment System

Growing up as a little boy I loved playing this game called 'Goal!' on the original Nintendo Entertainment System. I really enjoyed playing the corner kicks part of the game. I would sometimes play the World Cup section but I always lost so I rarely played that portion of the game when I was younger. I am now 24 and over the past few weeks I have had the opportunity to play this game every few weeks or so. I decided to play the World Cup portion of the game and if I can sum it up in a nutshell this portion consists of a person picking one team and basically playing against other teams in a World Cup format. Pretty basic stuff. For the first few weeks I was playing with the United States and I even made it to the World Cup semifinals at one point but the USSR put it on me pretty good. That gives you a pretty good indication of how old this game is right there. After a few attempts with the USA I decided to give the USSR a try. I do not know if that is considered treason but I really wanted to win a World Cup. I dominated the first pool play and even won my next game after getting out of pool play. My next game was against Poland. I do not want to go into very much detail because I am considering a law suit against the makers of this game at the current time. I do not know who the main designers for this game were but they should have been fired before they began. Poland and USSR have basically the exact same uniforms. I spent the whole game never knowing who had the ball. It was madness and as you might guess I did lose somewhere in the neighborhood of 4 or 5 to 1. If you get USSR just hope you never get matched up against Poland. If you do you can join my class action lawsuit.

I hope you enjoyed this article because it will probably be my first and last about soccer despite the fact that I am kind of excited about the upcoming World Cup. Go USA!!!
