God is Bigger Than All Your Fears

Devotion for Tuesday, June 3, 2008

Paula Carpenter
Romans 8:39 Neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

My friend Ann has this habit of always being right. It drives me crazy. Let me explain. When I'm arguing with God over something I do not want to do, I do NOT want to hear the words "You aren't listening". Nor do I want to hear "Now that He's got your attention" when I finally give in and quit running. But, God continues to send Ann's words to me anyway. She has another phrase that she's quite fond of. "My God is bigger than that." She normally spouts this off when I'm worried about something.

Last fall, soon after I got my new cell phone, I was walking through Walmart with Isabella, my three year old niece. She was sitting in the basket singing Veggie Tales songs as we shopped. I really didn't mind, because watching "Bob the Tomato" is one of our favorite things to do together. But it was when she started "God is bigger than the Boogie Man" I knew that I had to download this song....and make it Ann's ringtone!

What words of wisdom: "God is bigger than the boogie man. He's bigger than godzilla or the monster's on tv. Oh God is bigger than the boogie man. And He's watching out for you and me." Perhaps those things aren't your fears, but take it from Nonnie Paula...we sometimes have to look for monsters before we go to bed at night at our house.

All of us have fears. We all have worries. They're different for each of us. I don't do bugs, many people are fascinated by them. My mother hates roller coasters, I absolutely love them. I will only swim in water where I can see or touch bottom: Mike prefers the lake.

No matter what comes your way, the Bible promises that once we are in Christ Jesus, confessing our sins and asking Him to be our personal Savior...that nothing can separate us from his love. That means that no matter what you do, where you go, or how much you let fear control your life, He will never stop loving you. He's there, watching over us and simply waiting for us to turn around and come back to Him.
