Now before I go any further let me say here, when God called me to write the book; Spiritual Minded da daily devotion for the hip-hop generation and to use my talents and gifts He gave me and my long standing love of hip-hop to take it to the streets so to speak and teach the truth to the young black youth, I was more than a little relentless.
I was coming at God like yo for real there are many other cats that are much more qualified than me to do this. I don't hold any degrees in theology, I can't spit out scripture like that, I wasn't the most elegant speaker or every the greatest writer. I write in slang and most of my writing is in run-on sentances and not exactly gramactically correct. I'm saying I would drive ya average English teacher crazy with how I get down.
But much like Paul, God wasnt looking for an elegant speaker, He was looking for a relentless doer, someone who was gonna get it in for Him. He wasn't necessarily looking for someone with degrees in theology or even someone who could spit the Bible, chapter and verse at the drop of hat like that! But someone they would never see comin, to do His work!
I know I'm not the only one who feel or has felt that way. And to all of you who feel you are not worthy of doin great things for da King, let me break it down to you like this. Let keep it real and look at the cats God has used in the Bible. Abraham was an old man, Jacob was insecure, Leah was unattractive, Joseph was abused, Moses stuttered, Gideon was poor, Samson was codependent, Rahab was immoral, David had an affair and all kinds of family issues, Elijah was suicidal, Jeremiah was depressed, Jonah was reluctant, Naomi was a widow, they say that John the Baptist was an eccentic cat to say the least, Peter was impulsive and hot-tempered, Martha worried a lot, the Samaritian woman had several failed marriages, Zaccaeus was unpopular, Thomas had madd doubts, Paul was in poor health, and Timothy was timid. And you thought you had issues.
God uses those who others would never expect, so He gets all the glory. We were saved for service to God, not so God could serve-us, for employment, not just enjoyment. So next time you feel God can't use you cause you have issues or you are too.. and not (fill in your short comin here) enuf, remember the cast of misfits, listed above He used through the Bible, for His service. Do you think if He could do what He did with each of them, there is something in you that is too big for God to do what He do with and thru you. So the next time you hear someone knockin at the door, open it, the next time the phone rings pick it up, cause God is callin you, yes you!
"For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do."- Ephesians 2:10

Post a CommentGreat article. This article and some of the comments here, reminds me of a song we sing at mass(yes, I'm Catholic). Song is Here I am, Lord. First verse is Lord talking: I, the Lord of sea and sky, I have heard my people cry, All who dwell in dark and sin, My hand will save, I who made the stars of night, I will make their darkness bright, Who will bear my light to them? Whom shall I send.
The Chorus is SUPPOSED to be us: Here I am, Lord. Is it I, Lord? I have heard you calling in the night. I will go, Lord if you lead me. I will hold your people in my heart.
It is based on Isiah 6. To me, it answers what someone said here, they will go but they are scared. We need to help the Lord...but he will lead us. (to me that means don't be scared we aren't alone cause if he is leading the Lord is there with us....Don't be afraid, if you feel him calling you!
Thank you very much Audrey, you can get the book online @ http://www.Amazon.com/shops/tahirbooks1 - cop a copy or two!!!
SPIRITUAL MINDED II comin soon, I'm writing it as we speak!!!
Thank you again for your kind comments!!!
You know what, this is just what I needed to read tonight! How can I get your book, AJ? What you are doing is a very unique work and it is quite valuable and much needed today. Non-traditional and everything-- its straight from the heart. It's a welcome retreat to read this kind of work on AC... or anywhere for that matter and you certainly seem to have the heart for it. Keep it up, God is very very pleased my friend.
you got that right Lady G!
Thanks AJ for the message. When the Lord calls you, he will not stop until you answer him. It's best to come into agreement with the Lord, because he don't make any mistakes. We are flawed, but Lord Jesus Christ is flawless. Much love to you in Christ Jesus. Amen. Love and Peace.
Thank you very much Ms. P. for your feedback! You are not alone, many have been more than a little scared to answer when God comes a calling. Some have even run away from His voice, not that they were able to get far. The Bible is full of examples, so you are in good company! I too am working on answering when He calls the FIRST time, I have answered in the past but He had to call me more than once a few times and once or twice He had to do something (usually take something away like you do your child) to get my attention. Let's just say He has my undivided attention now! I am glad you are blessed with the Word! Please feel free to share it with anyone else you think might be blessed by it!!!!! peace and Blessings!!!
This is an awesome word! Oh, and right on time! Just another confirmation.
Next time he calls, I'm gonna answer (oooh, but I'm so scary!) HERE I AM!
Thanx Carl and you are so right!
Thank you Marilyn and no doubt M.A. Purifoy
I truly enjoy and appreciate those true words. You are correct, He is looking for a person who would just obey Him and just do the works of the LORD.
Good thoughts!
