That is what Christianity is to me. I cannot prove that my God exists, but I feel that it is still rational. Many Atheists say that it isn't logical to think that an external being is able to exist. They might say, that if God is so holy, then why is there so much evil in the world. Doesn't that cancel God out of the equation? With this one statement they have disproved God in their minds.
That is where the death of a thousand reasons comes into play. If I made a statement such as, "All ravens are black", it seems reasonable. However, if I found just one raven that wasn't black then my statement wouldn't be reasonable anymore. So I could show you raven after raven that was black, but who knows about the rare unknown red raven somewhere? Stupid statement like God wouldn't punish us if He is all loving, is for some people that red raven. I could show you what God has done for me and I could point you to thousands of Christians, but one slip can change all that. It is an uphill battle to show that God is actually God. If something terrible happens in someone's life, then automatically they don't believe that God exists anymore. Although the thousands of reasons that prove God existence, one bad day can disprove it all? Does that sound logical? I find it funny how fickle people really are. There's a story about a man who would take a stop watch and give God one minute to kill him. He would stand in front of hundreds of people and yell out to God, "God, I will give you one minute to kill me." The whole minute he would make fun of God and tell God to strike him down. After the minute was over, he would then tell the people that God didn't exist because of this test. Several people who were "Christians" said that after seeing that God didn't strike that man down, they didn't believe in God anymore.
The reason I believe in God is because I have seen His work in my life. I do not consider myself to be a great theologian or Bible guru. I believe with a simple faith that God lives. That does not mean that I am ignorant of anything. I believe in something that has not been proven false to me. People can argue different aspects of my religion and debate theology with me, but no one can disprove my personal testimony. Nobody can tell me that what I have experienced as a believer is false, because I experienced it. I personally feel the Holy Spirit convicting me of sin and leading me to the throne of God. Nobody can tell me that that isn't logical, because they don't know what I am feeling. If the speed limit on a road is 35, it is easy to make excuses why you are not going that speed limit: I am late for work, I was only going one over, or I just didn't see the speed limit sign. Same is true with God. I see God everywhere, but people will make excuses as to why they don't have to follow Him: My father didn't have to die, 9/11 wasn't just, or I can't see Him therefore He doesn't exist. I won't stop believing because someone asks me a hard question about my faith. I will work on the question until I have found a logical answer. So far there isn't any question that I haven't been able to think through and have God give me peace about. The future is still unknown, but I am not a fickle Christian, I will believe in God and trust in His word.
