God Loves

What's love got to do with it? Quite a lot, it turns out. It was only yesterday, it seems that love sprang its eternal wings around our bride. It was only yesterday. Narcissism is the norm, creating that spark in the human mind that can ignite it to truth, and it becomes more and more difficult. Not impossible, but definitely more difficult. Love is one of those truths. We call it a truth because that is what it is. To not say so would be disingenuous. What is love really all about? The general consensus seems to be that love is a feeling. Feelings come and feelings go, so they say and so it is with love. When the feeling is gone, there is nothing in life we need. As stated in the Oxford Dictionary, love is the strong feeling of deep affection for somebody or something.

The romantic definition of love, that is so often taken as truth is, in actuality, lust. Now, lust is indeed a feeling, a feeling with rather negative connotations. This is why we prefer to cloak lust under the drape of love. If what we are feeling is the result of love, and not lust, it makes it seem so much more positive. Doesn't it? It frees us to do things we would never do if we thought what we felt was only lust. It is a silly game we play with and against ourselves. Lust looses its luster either very quickly, or slowly, over time but it always looses its luster. Thank God that love is not a feeling. But if it is not a feeling, then what is it? This is the best definition, I believe, you will find of love. What is being described is "perfect" love, God's love. He is showing us something we are incapable of. We are incapable, in and of ourselves, of truly loving.

That's the only conclusion an honest person can come to when reading those passages. God does not just love...He actually is Love. When we love, it is only because some small fragment of His love is being imparted to us. God loves through us, and only as we allow Him to.
