God of War III for Playstation 3 Game Review

Kratos Returns and Slashes His Way Straight to Players' Hearts

J G Hodnette
It seems that in this day and age when developers are always coming out with new games, it is hard to find a diamond that shines in the rough. But God of War III is this game. Developers, Sony Santa Monica have kept players waiting patiently for the next God of War game and they do not disappoint. The game keeps everything that has worked wonders in previous games and adds some things that will leave players shaking in their seats.

Storyline

Picking up immediately where God of War II ended, Kratos leads the Titans in an all-out assault against the gods of Mount Olympus--and I think it goes without saying that they are pretty upset about it. Things are going well for the Kratos side until Zeus knocks him off the mountain with a lightning bolt, and he lands all the way down in Hades. Now Kratos must battle the long way back up, killing gods along the way, including Hades himself. As he journeys upwards, he learns that Pandora's Box still exists and begins searching for it while Zeus tries to stop him. The storyline is engaging and interesting--beginning with the intense attack on Mount Olympus and then taking it down to the steady rising of action that we are all used to. Good voice acting makes it all very pleasant and you get such a pantheon of gods and goddesses that you'll be plenty satisfied.

Graphics

The first thing that will take your breath away about God of War III will be the astounding graphics. Sony Santa Monica has in many ways outdone themselves. With a dramatic use of changing scene sizes, the developers have made the closest thing to what controlling the actors of 300 would be like if they battled gigantic monsters instead of Persians. The camera in the game switches brilliantly giving the gamer the sense that he is really in the action--it is in every way really like watching a movie. The graphics are so fine that you will often find yourself forgetting that you are playing the game and drop your jaw and controller at the sheer beauty. In this modern era of gaming, it takes a lot for this kind of graphics praise to come about and all reviewers agree that the graphics of this game are worth dedicating a paragraph to.

Gameplay

Naturally, no game, no matter how brilliant looking, could pass unless it was also fun. Luckily this game once again fits the bill. By combining the good old fashioned battle style of the original games with a few tweaks, this game keeps everything that we love about God of War. The battle system includes most notably better switching between weapons, which are all very useful and fun, as well as a new long distance "hook shot" style of reaching and attacking new enemies in order to lengthen your combos. The boss battles are great in this game and like a Legend of Zelda game use the abilities and weapons that you have just learned--there is something very satisfying about that. Naturally, it wouldn't be God of War if there weren't also some awesomely gruesome moves. The game includes some of the goriest finishing moves one could ever imagine. With the realistic graphics in mind, you may want to prepare a bag in you are queasy around blood. Of course besides being completely inhumane, the moves are wickedly satisfying in the way that only Kratos revenge is.

This game has received a perfect score of 10/10 by many reviewers. It is available for about $50 wherever video games are sold.

This was very well written - I have actually never even played this type of game but your writing style provided me with an entertaining read despite my uninformed status.
