Going Back to Church: Which One is Right for You?

A vast majority of people today have replaced organized religion with spirituality. Long job hours, working on days when church is held, lack of money, the Internet, and a plethora of other situations have created a society that is largely spiritual in nature, but not necessarily "religious."

If there comes a time when you or your family would like to give church another shot, or if you would like to try church for the first time, going to the right one is of utmost importance. There are so many different religions and ways to practice out there that it boggles the mind.

Research

Ok, so you are interested in a particular church that is local, and has worship times that work within your schedule. Look them up on the Internet first. Almost all churches today have a website, and it is best to do your homework before getting all dressed up only to be disappointed. Some churches have rock bands and require no formal attire, and others will speak in tongues or have a dress code, so be aware what you are getting into before you go.

Word of Mouth

One of the best ways to find a church is through a friend or relative. They can provide crucial feedback on the church they attend including meeting times, the required attire, what religion it is and what the pastor is likely to say. For instance, a female who walks into a Pentecostal church in full makeup with their hair down and pants on is in for a nasty surprise.

Another benefit of this method is that you do not have to go in alone. If you research a church on the Internet, you are forced to go to church knowing only the people you bring with you. However, if you can go with a friend or family member, the transition might be much easier and far less uncomfortable.

Never Feel Locked In

If you try a church and for whatever reason it did not work out the way you were hoping, do not feel that you have to attend again simply because someone there asks you back. Feel free to tell them that you are trying a bunch of different churches, but you liked their church very much. Remember, this is about you, and if you aren't happy, what is the point?

Church is a place where you can meet nice people (theoretically), and not have to worry about your car being broken into in the parking lot. Try a few, and if you find it is not something you enjoy, discontinue going. Excellent Biblical lessons can be found online or on television, and can be watched when you and your family have time.
